Preparation of triphenylmethane contains an error.
[edit]The text states that conversion of chlorotriphenylmethane to triphenylmethane is accomplished by hydrolysis but that is wrong. In the Organic Syntheses prep that is cited, it is clear that ether and aluminum chloride cause pyrolysis of ether when heated, and some unknown reducing agent is responsible for reduction of chlorotriphenylmethane, so it is a reduction by pyrolysis or by unknown mechanism, not a hydrolysis. If you perform hydrolysis of chlorotriphenylmethane, the only product obtained (and the only product obtainable by hydrolysis) is triphenylmethanol. 45.62.183.154 (talk) 17:57, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
