Show trial?

[edit]

I'm removing the statement that this was a "show trial" as I cannot find any reliable sources for this.

It doesn't display the key characteristics of a show trial, namely:-

1) The trial relies wholly or mainly on a confession of guilt.

2) The accused are tortured or otherwise coerced into confessing.

3) The accused have no real opportunity to defend themselves and a guilty verdict has been decided in advance.

Given that the defendants did not confess their guilt and were actually aquitted, this cannot be a show trial in the mainstream sense of the term, which is for trials such as those conducted in the Stalinist Soviet Union. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.32.72.129 (talk) 21:42, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
