Death Date

[edit]

People keep incorrectly putting his date of death as August 6. His death certificate is marked as August 7. Link: https://mec.lacounty.gov/case-detail/?caseNumber=2021-09079 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23:15, 10 September 2021 (UTC) (talk) [reply]

I think this part is contested at this point, some citations (ie. NYT) say that he died on Saturday (Aug 7th) and some (ie. Rolling stone) say he died on Friday. Both should be quite reputable news agencies, I think it's best to leave it as is, or if you want to change it I think changing the infobox, the citation, and the death date in the lead would be best. I had changed it to "6th or 7th", and I see User:Hostagecat changed that to just "7th". I think that probably is correct, but I have no strong opinion on whether we should note both or use an amount of editorial discretion to say, "Eh, some of the sources probably said 'Friday' because it was very early Saturday morning."
On a related note, @Hostagecat and @WikiBear2000: I've removed the cause of death because it was poorly-sourced, and I don't see anyone saying this that I'd consider a reliable source. See my edit summary. biographies of recently-deceased people are held to a high standard on sourcing, especially as concerns potentially sensitive causes of death. (Noting also, as above, that primary sources are generally not sufficient for claims like these.) There's no harm in waiting until there's more clarity among sources. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 16:09, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
