Headline text
[edit]Hate to bring this up but sex tourism is alive and well all over Thailand, the statement would read better along the lines of 'it is now concentrated mostly in Pattaya and Bangkok'.--Chuckygobyebye 14:19, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Statistics??
[edit]Can anyone provide statistics on tourist numbers through the years? Preferably with reference source? Takeaway (talk) 18:18, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
- Already found the statistics on http://www2.tat.or.th/stat/web/static_index.php Takeaway (talk) 04:31, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Assessment
[edit]I am giving this article a C-class rating (never mind the prior drive-by Start tagging) for now. Generally, the article is very readable, and the overview section provides a fairly good summary of the country's tourism industry. However, the other sections have a rather promotional tone which needs to be edited to be encyclopaedic. The one-sentence introduction is too short, and I think it would be preferable to translocate some of the information in the overview section to the lead. The article is also somewhat lacking in breadth of coverage; a brief summary of the major tourist destinations instead of a plain list would be useful, and further information on investments and promotional projects by the government and the private sector would be great. Effects of Thailand's recent political turmoil on the tourism industry would also be an interesting point to expand upon. References are provided for the overview section, but need to be properly formatted, and are still lacking in the other sections. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:30, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Discussion?
[edit]According to User:Portillo the article, as it now stands, is POV and uses weasel words. The banners which user Portillo had placed in the article state that pending a discussion, the banners should not be removed. Where's the discussion? - Takeaway (talk) 16:03, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

advert and peacock issues
[edit]I removed on just now, there's lots more...."fun-for-all water splashing" re Songkran remains; I took out the bit about "only an aescetic can resist shopping" or however it was worded; that was probably even copyvio, "citation needed" wasn't the right thing there....Skookum1 (talk) 00:51, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

Tourism statistics dodgy
[edit]Some changes were made this week to tourism arrivals by nationality. The cite for the statistics was unchanged. It is not clear that the cite supports the data in the WP article. I would like to know where these statistics are coming from, so if you know, please post here or amend the article. I raise this as an issue that will need our attention. There is no easily accessible source of Thai tourism stats it appears, as those that do exist, e.g., http://www2.tat.or.th/stat/web/static_download.php?Rpt=cre. do not work. Why delete an entire section because you think Time magazine, among others, is a dodgy source? Find better cites, improve the article but surely there was something worth keeping. Seligne (talk) 10:22, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
The Elephant in the room.
[edit]I am surprised that though there are various categories of reasons why people travel to Thailand, no mention is made of "sex tourists". I recall hearing somewhere that 60% of single males travelling there are sex tourists. Yet I can find no mention of it in the article. Is this the elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about?46.7.195.132 (talk) 18:56, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- Good catch! Someone sneaked in and deleted the small section devoted to sex tourism, something that should not be ignored in any encyclopedia worthy of the name. I have noted that there are some who want to censor this topic. Reputable sources on this subject can be hard to find and I think that accounts for the section's brevity. Thank you! Seligne (talk) 01:19, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- that 60% of single males travelling there are sex tourists. source on that. deleted the small section devoted to sex tourism, something that should not be ignored in any encyclopedia worthy of the name Tourism in the Philippines, Tourism in Vietnam, Tourism in Laos, and Tourism in Cambodia don't even mention about sex tourists can you fix that?
