[edit]Does the Other ships / Other ships to ply the waters off Toronto, Ontario: section really belong in this article? The ships listed there have nothing to do with Toronto Island Ferry Services. War ships? Rochester Ferry?? --Vgedris 14:38, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- No, I don't think they do. Unless anybody can build a case here, I'm inclined to delete the section. -- Chris j wood (talk) 11:39, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Other services
[edit]The article contains the following:
- The TTC relationship with the Toronto Island continues with bus services when ferry service is interrupted. The vehicles are loaned from the TTC, but they are operated by Parks and Recreation.
What does this mean?. As far as I'm aware, there is no road bridge or tunnel to the Islands, so it is difficult to see how a replacement bus service could be operated. On the other hand, the text is quite masterful in implying that this is a replacement service without actually saying it. What it actually says is that if the ferries are interupted, then P&R hires a few buses and runs them somewhere (perhaps just to keep their hand in at running transit services?).
Can anybody clarify this. If not, I'm inclined to delete the paragraph as unencyclopaedic. -- Chris j wood (talk) 11:36, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Public access between airport and the rest of islands
[edit]There is no public access between the airport and the rest of the island chain. Toronto City Centre Airport Facts, publisher = Toronto Port Authority, accessdate = 2008-03-13 The map appears to show otherwise!!

- The statement derives from a similar statement in the article Toronto City Centre Airport, which indicates that the ferry is the only access, and which I didn't originate. Since I saw your comment above, I've tried to find a citable source to confirm or deny this, but I havn't been able to. The link you cite above describes the ferry access but doesn't explicitly say it is the only access.
- On the other hand, what the map shows is a road link to the airfield, on the opposite side of the runway from the terminal. Other maps (eg Google Maps) confirm this. Of course airports often have non-public road accesses, for emergency and service usage. It seems unlikely this is a public access, unless they let people wander across the runway!. On balance, I think it best to leave it as is, at least until somebody more definatively states the access is public. -- Chris j wood (talk) 12:50, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
- There is no public access from the airport itself to the remainder of the islands. There is only one emergency services service road. The public would have to take the island airport ferry to Bathurst Quay, travel on the mainland to Queen's Quay, then take the public ferries to the three different island ports. To clarify the above questions:
The buses the TTC loans are shipped to the Island on the Ongiara ferry, which can accommodate large vehicles. If it is a long and exceptionally cold winter the water between the mainland and the islands ices over but the short space between the airport and the quay at the foot of Bathurst street can be kept clear by the more frequent runs of the Island airports ferry service which becomes by default the only public connection to the islands. The island airport is normally closed off by a fence but under such circumstances The TTC buses will be allowed to route through it between flights to give access to the rest of the island

Ditching intrusive infoboxes
[edit]I've ditched four infoboxes that have been added to the article. I could live with one, but four in a row just overwhelmes the article. And they aren't desperately to the point anyway; this article is about ferry services, whilst the boxes describe some companies that operate(d) these services.
I've no problem with carrying the information, but in the right way and right place. And a stream of infoboxes on this article is neither. -- Starbois (talk) 18:16, 21 November 2008 (UTC)
Ship infoboxes
[edit]I have restored the infoboxes about the current vessels. They were commented out in this edit after being broken in this edit.
I have also made some minor fixes to the templates.
Of course, we still have the problem that all those boats look odd down the right hand side of the bottom of the article. Is there a better way to do it? Maybe more like the tables that we have earlier in the article.
