New Branding

[edit]

Topix LLC has dropped the ".net" from their name, and now just goes by "Topix".67.160.229.49 07:40, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability

[edit]

It is my belief that Topix.net is notable enough to remain on wikipedia. Here are just a few reasons:

Topix should be retained on Wikipedia as a notable warning of its "proceed with caution" or, "let the user beware" status; persons who are thorough could benefit from the experience of those who have been there and suffered as a result. It is interesting that in some web inquiries you will find topix and wikipedia listed as competition to each other; my feeling is that topix is the less scrupulous of the two after years of following both and each. 71.51.76.205 (talk) 15:32, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

TPW

[edit]

What's TPW?

Wiki defines several possibilities, including the cryptic, Tactical Provost Wing. In topix's case this could do with the vast amounts of hot air that its trolls emit, not unlike the exhaust of RAF jet engines. Possible other clearer explanations may include, Topix Picks Weiners, or Totally (troll) Polluted Website 71.51.76.205 (talk) 15:38, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously pov edit bordering on vandalism.

[edit]

I've deleted the following paragraph from this article...

"In fact, contrary to the above paragraph, Topix edits posts as I have many times tried to link others to the growing insights to the New World Order, and unfortunately these posts, while full of true information, are never seen by others. It is a censorship site and they should be ashamed of themselves."

If the poster would like to re-submit his complaint of censorship on topix.com he should reword the above entry and only do so if he can provide evidence of such censorship, for example in the form of a reputable article or source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.152.237.111 (talk) 08:31, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Personal thread experience in September, 2009 confirms the POV that Topix not only edits posts, but strips them out at will en masse at times. And the level of filtering sophistication in their approach is high, for, on one's home computer one's posts may appear, yet upon going to a public terminal the same posts will be gone...just ask the fans of "Cousin Jethro". Additionally, Topix seems conservatively biased, as noted by the poster above, somewhat favoring the anti-Global Warming denialists and anti-Scientology posters: therefore Topix is basically, pro-troll, sadly...71.51.78.18 (talk) 13:43, 9 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Topix started to shadow ban members with IPs outside USA — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.27.8.20 (talk) 10:41, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Privacy issues

[edit]

The privacy issues section definitely needs some urgent attention as it is very pov. "They do not care who posts what as long as they get hits on their web site" and "Visit this site at your own risk" are certainly two statements that shouldn't be there, unless someone can back them up with a reliable reference. I might have a go at cleaning it up in the new year, but I won't be visiting the site. I'm tempted to believe that there is an element of risk involved in accessing Topix after a recent experience. See this and this for the full story. TheRetroGuy (talk) 20:56, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The "privacy" issue goes deeper than just "topix," for as studies have shown, NSA and whatever other government data mining entities have made much deeper wholesale inroads into your "privacy" than you may care to know. At this point, after a year of contributing to topix I have come to the conclusion that it is mainly an open "troll feast," with encouraged acceptance of far-winged statements from both or all fringes -- and may offer a training ground for WHINSEC/SOA, i.e., Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation personnel as well.
