Use of QC suffix

[edit]

Sir Anthony took silk and so until he was appointed to the High Court bench, he would have been styled "Anthony Clarke QC". Upon appointment to the High Court bench, he would no longer use the 'QC' suffix, because he ceased being a member of the Bar. This is different from circuit judges who remain members of the bar upon appointment and so retain the 'QC' suffix. See the list of senior judges (High Court and above) from the Judiciary website (http://www.judiciary.gov.uk/keyfacts/list_judiciary/senior_judiciary_list.htm) where none of them has the 'QC' suffix (even though nearly all of them had been QCs prior to appointment) with the list of Circuit Judges on the same website (http://www.judiciary.gov.uk/keyfacts/list_judiciary/circuit_judge_list.htm) where those who were QCs prior to their appointment have retained the suffix. It is not correct therefore to refer to him as "Sir Anthony Clarke QC". Informed Owl (talk) 20:15, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Informed Owl.[reply]
