Tattoo

[edit]

What does the tattoo say? I can make out a couple of words.Johnnybriggs 08:22, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

James Joyce quote about "up from the slush". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cm619 (talkcontribs) 23:38, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Turkish banknote

[edit]

Tommy also apeared on the back of the Turkish 100 Lira note for a breif period during the months of july & september of 2004.

Really? Johnnybriggs (talk) 09:26, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone got a photo?

[edit]

The article really needs one. Red Gown (talk) 15:58, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism?

[edit]

From first paragraph of Comedic style "We sent a team to ask him where did he get his inspiration for his comedy". This would imply to me that some of the page may have been plagerised, although googling the term only leads here. Anyone know who wrote it originaly/want to go through the edit history until they find them to double check? Eccentricned (talk) 23:54, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

nm, it was a fairly recent anon edit. I'm going to remove it until someone finds the original source to add as a citationEccentricned (talk) 23:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dermot Morgan's death

[edit]

It says Ardal blamed Tommy for Dermot's death, but there is no valid source for this. The paragraph clearly reads that the producers wanted to keep re-shooting the scene, not Tommy. I doubt Ardal would blame Tommy for such a thing when the producers wanted to keep retaking it. So what? are we to believe that Ardal thinks Dermot Morgan is dead because Tommy couldn't look depressed enough for the scene? I think the quote is complete BS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.131.138.154 (talk) 23:00, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life

[edit]

Perhaps some information on his personal life? .Daithi81 —Preceding undated comment was added at 19:51, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No details. Careful here as Tiernan left his pregnant wife to hook up with his present wife. Reputable source needed for this one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.198.169.92 (talk) 09:06, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Comedic style

[edit]

The section Comedic style looks like it was written by a fan of Tommy Tiernan - no sign of NPOV (nor are there sources). Autarch (talk) 13:55, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's now tidied up with references and a mention of past controversies. Autarch (talk) 19:31, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Controversy

[edit]

The Irish Times had an article about the supposed controversy -- Horkana (talk) 15:56, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Its not really supposed. Although Jimmy Carr gets away with worse. Difference is Carr is not so obviously trying to court. Ceoil (talk) 17:33, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Someone keeps removing a list of other comedians from here who do holocaust humour.

This article isn't about comedians who do Holocaust "humour" - it's specifically about Tommy Tiernan. Autarch (talk) 21:23, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of sourced material

[edit]

An anon keeps removing sourced information - [1], calling any restoration of the information vandalism. I never heard of Tommy Tiernan, so I have no idea what the problem is here, but I don't think sourced info should be removed without discussion, especially by anonymous IP editors. Woogee (talk) 02:07, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

True - the article has been prone to vandalism by people altering existing sentences or removing sourced material - I've restored some deleted material.Autarch (talk) 21:48, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable sources

[edit]

Note: WP:RS says that self-published media—whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, personal pages on social networking sites, Internet forum postings, or tweets—are largely not acceptable and Self-published sources should never be used as third-party sources about living persons, even if the author is a well-known professional researcher or writer; see WP:BLP#Reliable sources. The latter also points to WP:SELFPUB. Since Tommy Tiernan is controversial and his blog is self-published, it must be cited very carefully or not at all.Autarch (talk) 21:57, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page guidelines - a reminder

[edit]

WP:TALK says The purpose of a Wikipedia talk page (accessible via the discussion tab) is to provide space for editors to discuss changes to its associated article or project page. Article talk pages should not be used by editors as platforms for their personal views on a subject - so saying that he's the funniest man alive or that he isn't a comedian are not suitable for the talk page.Autarch (talk) 21:47, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The second paragraph of Comedic style reads In Nov 1997 Tommy appeared for the first time on RTE’s famous ‘The Late Late Show’. As a result of some material about “the Lamb of God”, a group of protestors gathered outside the RTE studios after the show and a record number of complaints were made.[citation needed] As a result Tommy was accused of blasphemy in the Irish Senate.[citation needed] As a result of this and numerous other Late Late appearances, record amounts of complaints and bans from appearing Tommy has been christened ‘the most controversial comedian in Ireland’.[citation needed]. In [https://www.tommytiernan.com/biog/ the biography on his blog, the same paragraph appears - clearly a copy and paste job. I'll remove the paragraph.Autarch (talk) 21:07, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Appearances

[edit]

Is this section a breach of WP:INDISCRIMINATE?

Looks like it - I'll trim it down.Autarch (talk) 18:46, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

People routinely delete his filmography, in a sneaky way. No mention of it, or why they're doing it. It's important information I always struggle to find correct elsewhere. It's always incomplete, incorrect, or very dated. Even IMDB has incorrect details for him, which should be unheard of. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Torydude (talkcontribs) 11:06, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Because its listy unencylopedic fluff. Ceoil 11:38, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

POV editing out

[edit]

An editor has removed the personal life details , I have re-entered them as no reason was given other than "who cares" in edit summary by the editor. The reader cares was my first response now its moved to here . If they wish to remove material from a stable version being bold has been done now an reason would be good if not what is in stays in.Murry1975 (talk) 15:53, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I wholly agree. What a very misguided edit that was, regardless of the flippant and useless edit summary. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:00, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Opening paragraph makes no sense.

[edit]
If he was born in Donegal, how could he have moved there FROM Cork when "he was a child"? In fact the entire paragraph needs revision. Hanoi Road (talk) 18:05, 8 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Holocaust section

[edit]

I believe the section on his Holocaust comments/joke/rant have WP:UNDUE focus. It takes up most of the article, while not being so important to his career as a whole. I am going to pare it down to the essentials. Ashmoo (talk) 11:50, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
