I don't think Shales was born in 1944. This would make him 63 years old--he certainly looks younger. I have heard that he is rather ambiguous about stating his age. I heard Shales criticized another critic for "outing" the recently deceased Merv Griffin. Tom Shales, in turn, was accused by gay groups of hypocrisy (supposedly Shales is gay). I wondered if someone could add something about this, as well as some of Tom Shales views regarding some popular shows.
