"Dancers' son"?

Listing his children, the text concludes "dancer's son Tom Moss and daughters Kathleen Lemon and Patricia Dessoy (née Ball)". I've added [{tl|clarify}} to this. I suspect that it is saying that all three are dancers, and the apostrophe is intrusive, but I've not found anything to back this up, so it may not be. Even if it is, and the apostrophe is removed, it still needs to be made clearer. --ColinFine (talk) 23:19, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I can see that the text is not clear, but it is not saying that all three were dancers. According to "John Major - the Autobiography", page 4:

"In July 1901 a young dancer, Mary Moss, married to a musician named James Moss, gave bith to a son in Wigan. They called him Tom and registered his birth on 25 July, but the details they gave were untrue: the baby's father was not James Moss, but my father, Tom [Major-Ball]......"

So the current text is trying, not very clearly, to say that Tom Moss was the son of a dancer (Mary Moss) from an affair with Tom Major-Ball. So perhaps for the sake of clarity the text needs amending to make this clear and not imply that he or his half-siblings were dancers. Hope that helps. Honorary rank in Peruvian Army?

I recall some newspapers stating what may be a legend that Tom was an honorary Sergeant (memory may play tricks - I am going back to the 90s so exact rank may be wrong) in the Peruvian Army. Has there been any published and informed confirmation or refutation of this? I note that he did get drafted into a Uruguayan militia while working in South America.Cloptonson (talk) 08:11, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

South America dates discrpancy

In Major's Autobiography he states that this trip was 1903-04, whereas in My Old Man he states that it was 1904-05. I'm not sure which is correct so have left it as is.WisDom-UK (talk) 17:14, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Name

Where does the name Major come from? It says he was born Abraham Thomas Ball, then refers to him as Thomas Major-Ball without comment. Why was his son simply Major? Venqax (talk) 20:39, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
