More information

There's a little bit more detail about his earlier military career here but I haven't added it as I'm not sure how reliable the source is. And what does ED stand for? Jasper33 09:06, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

I'd never seen it before and I didn't know either, but judging by my Google search, some prominent people got one. I found the answer at http://www.awm.gov.au/glossary/ which is very useful for Australian and British military jargon.
That site/material looks quite sound so I will include it, thanks. Grant | Talk 12:12, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

A small amount of additional info (from footnote 3 on p561 of Volume VII – The Final Campaigns (1st edition, 1963) Gavin Long (Chapter 23): "Brig T. C. Eastick CMG, DSO, ED, SX3295. Engineer; of Reade Park, SA." Not sure what the CMG stands for - is that something to do with his knighthood? Jasper33 12:52, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Companion of the Order of St Michael, which I think means he was not a knight(?) Grant | Talk 01:46, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Ranks and titles

Hi again Jasper33, and well done in finding a source for the knighthood.

User:203.122.249.154 a.k.a. "eastick@adelaide.on.net", if you see this, the Australian Government World War 2 Nominal Roll entry for Thomas Charles Eastick has his substantive rank as Colonel, not Brigadier, when he left the army on 27/2/46. Sir Thomas may have been made an honorary Brigadier at some later point, but it seems clear that he was not a Brigadier when he left the army. Grant | Talk 16:11, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Sorry it's taking me this long to get to this, wound up being way busier than I thought I would be.

  • "Having served for four years in the senior cadets" - what exactly was the senior cadets? Is this a pre-military school, a local militia group, or something else?
In 1911, universal service for boys 12 to 18 (and adults to 26) was introduced in Australia, it continued until 1929. The senior cadets were the older ones (14-18). Linked to Conscription in Australia#Universal Service Scheme. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 10:25, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
  • Was he also made a Lt. Col. in the AIF? Or did his rank in the Militia automatically transfer over?
The former, clarified. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 10:32, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
  • How many guns did the 2/7 have?
  • "its participation in the campaign was broken up into two primary operations: the Battle of Tarakan, a landing on Tarakan; and Operation Oboe Six, a landing on Brunei, and the Battle of Labuan on Labuan" - So was Labuan part of Oboe Six?
Amended very clunky prose, hopefully clearer now. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 08:30, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
  • Is cause of death known
Not in sources. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 10:30, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
  • Publishing location of Keat Gin?
Added. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 08:30, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
  • A number of the listed news sources don't seem to be used, should they be removed?
Yes, I'm developing it towards an ACR nom, so they are part of the work. I can move them to further reading for now, but it seems a bit pointless. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 08:30, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

Looks to be in quite good shape. Hog Farm Talk 07:01, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Meets all of the criteria at this point, promoting. Hog Farm Talk 22:05, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

Improved to Good Article status by Peacemaker67 (talk). Self-nominated at 10:18, 10 December 2021 (UTC).

General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Article meets eligibility criteria i.e. recently promoted to GA and definitely meets length minimums. Article is well sourced. Love the way the sources have been categorized! I will assume WP:AGF on all offline sources. Nice work. Tone of the article is neutral. Can the nominator rework ALT0. Particularly 'Predict gun data to ...' can be reworded. ALT1 looks good. Can be made more 'interesting' I presume, but, I will let the nominator take a final call with that. QPQ is pending. Earwig copyvio shows a higher number, but, no copyvio seen. Ktin (talk) 04:12, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

G'day Ktin, QPQ done, and trimmed ALT0. Prefer ALT0. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 06:18, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
Howdy @Peacemaker67:. ALT0 reads good to me. Striking ALT1. QPQ done. Approving ALT0. Ktin (talk) 06:24, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
Howdy there, Peacemaker67! Any chance you could cite the hook inline before I promote? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/she) 10:55, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
G’day Theleekycauldron, done. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 12:22, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
