Copy edit
[edit]Completed a copy edit of the article. Deleted a number of links that are dead, and for which I could find no replacement. Extensive changes to the references throughout, to bring them up to current specificiations from the Manual of Style. Replaced <div> elements in the Works section with {{col-begin}} and {{col-end}} markup. Expanded infobox. Added template at head of page to request translation assistance on the quotes in the Among Costumbrismo and Modernity section. Macwhiz (talk) 03:03, 25 August 2010 (UTC)
Translation of the quotes in the Among Costumbrismo and Modernity section
[edit]Quotes have been translated, link to wikipages on Costumbrismo and Modernismo have been reviewed or added, and Section has been renamed. Reason for renaming: Author is described in text and quotes as placed in between two literary currents (Costumbrismo and Modernismo) that are seen as opposing each other in technique and style. "Among" could also be a choice for the Spanish "Entre", but the meaning of the article is that Author shares elements of both currents without being completely inscribed into any of them. Besides, the second literary style is better translated as "Modernismo" or its anglicism rather the epoch "Modernity". Whole original Spanish source (other than quotes) of Ref. 9 could not been found online (link is dead, article / book was not located when searching) but reference is left in place. Assuming quotes from Ref. 9 are authentic (could not be verified), translation provided is accurate with the possible exception of "unlike the work of Costumbrists of the 19th century that described their paintings, scenery and characters using the same pattern", because it is not clear whether "cuadros, escenas y tipos" refers to paintings as translated, or to tableaux as in theater. "Tableaux" for "Cuadros" is the right choice in that context. Ref. 10 was proofed against original online. --Zobelleboz (talk) 12:45, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Is the translation banner at the top really necessary?
[edit]This article still needs more work, but how much more of that work is translation related?Schnapps17 (talk) 05:24, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
