Feedback

[edit]

While I've edited a number of articles on Wikipedia and have even been teaching university students how to edit, this was my first time building an article from scratch. I have a wealth of additional citations I could add, but ran out of steam the night I wrote it and would love some feedback first - what's missing?

I'd also love to find others who are excited about microcredit / microfinance and innvoative approaches to reducing poverty. Please drop me a note!

Not a bad start, especially for your first article. I'll start with comments about the current article's content and then talk about how to improve the article further.
    • There should be a link to Muhammad Yunus' article in the lead section, probably even in the first sentence. Currently it just says "the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner’s ongoing campaign...", for readers unfamiliar with the subject, it isn't clear who you're talking about here.
    • "receiving the highest rating in "Audience Buzz.'" - looks like it is just user ratings of the film on that website. User ratings are not to be used (WP:MOSFILM).
    • The second paragraph of the Synopsis is a bit weird. It seems to just start talking about Yunus, the Grameen Bank, the Grameen Foundation, and Grameen America. How does this relate to the film's content? This article is about the film, Yunus, the Grameen Bank, the Grameen Foundation, and Grameen America all have their own articles. Stay on topic. This paragraph should be rewritten to explain how it connects to the film or removed. I think maybe you were trying to give some background on Grameen America, in that case maybe some of the second paragraph should be moved before the first paragraph.
    • "with a mission to help create a world free of poverty." - Sound overly promotional to me. I would remove it.
    • "In June 2010, Grameen America reported..." - This sentence seems like it belongs in the Grameen America article rather than here. This isn't mentioned in the film, is it?
    • References - The link should point to the actual page which supports the statement in the article. For example, for citation 5, rather than just linking to the Grameen America website, it should link to a page where it is stated that in June 2010, Grameen America reported that it had disbursed approximately $4.3 million in loans to 2,002 borrowers and had maintained a repayment rate of 99%.
    • External links - Once again, this article is about the film, so all external links should relate directly to the film itself.
What's missing from the article? The two main things are:
    • Information about the production of the film. Things like how the director got the job, when was the film shot, securing finance for the film, etc.
    • Information about the film's reception. Maybe a bit hard considering the film hasn't been publicly released yet. But, when possible, the article should include information on the response from critics, any award wins or nominations, box office figures, etc.
I've fixed some of the minor things for you. You might want to check out WP:MOSFILM, WikiProject Films' guidelines for films (although, it is primarily focused on fictional films, the Reception section especially should be of some use). You may also want to check out Wikipedia:Citing sources for information on how to better format citations (I'd recommend using the {{Cite web}} template).
Good luck with the article. - Kollision (talk) 07:54, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Can't get to fixes quite yet but very much appreciate the concrete advice and speed of your response. Gratzi! DrMel 16:15, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
