/* Garbled text */ OK, "To" is Polish, not English, (Play) is Dabn suffix, not part of the work's title, and the lit. genre involved is not clear
[edit]It appears that in our bio Czesław Miłosz
- *2000: To (It), Kraków: Społeczny Instytut Wydawniczy Znak
refers to the work that is the topic of the accompanying article; in a revision that added mention of the same work to the bio, the added text was
- To (2000) - tomik poetycki
which Google translate renders as
- This (2000) - a book of poetry
(I'm not sure whether in a slightly different context, G-trans gave me "It" instead of "This", or i just saw it in the bio, but in any case apparently the means of translation used by an editor of the bio resulted in "It" rather than "This", and the art of translation is subjective enuf that the agreement of the date reassures me that both are for the same work. )
At the time of the introduction of the work to the bio, what the bio had was a single chronological list of works, and only later were poetry and (i think 2) other genre headings used to break up that list; i haven't tried to track down when or who.)
Presumably a dumb bot used the bio to generate the (accompanying) article that the bio now links to, which (until my edit) said
- To (play) is a poetry collection by Czesław Miłosz. It was first published in 2000.
by copying the (correctly or incorrectly) Dab'd WP title, without piping, into the text accompanying this Dab. I know not how they came to each Dab-suffix it as a play while each implicitly or explicitly calling it a poetry collection, but the failure to pipe on the accompanying article did occur in the same edit that created here the play/poetry contradiction, FWIW in the event that the sole unreverted editor who preceded me worked also on the bio. I repaired both of those here by
- making the bot-ish stub still stubbier
- piping the link to inhibit any impression that Miłosz entitled a work "To (play)" in the same way that a poet might invent titles like "Driving (fast)" or "For ... (Mom)", and
- putting off the question of what genre the work "To" (meaning "It" or "That") belongs to.
OK, permit me to sum up: "To" is Polish, not English; (Play) is Dabn suffix, not part of the work's title; and the lit. genre involved is not clear.
