While working for JTS for a month in Tambaram 10 years ago, I was aware of the History of Saint Thomas in the area.

Being driven past Tirusulam railway-station each morning on the road to Tambaram, the name intrigued me, as it seemed to remind me of something. Finally I made the mental connection, and asked my colleague, who was Jewish, "Mike, what is the Hebrew for Jerusalem?" His answer was "Tirusulam", to which I replied, "Like the name on the railway-station?....I guess Saint Thomas must have named this place!"

Mike, Chico, California.
