Potential Conflict of Interest

[edit]

We have published a biography on Tino. Tino Tabak: Dreams and Demons of a New Zealand Cycling Legend by Jonathan Kennett, (2009). Kennett Brothers Limited, Wellington, New Zealand. ISBN 978-0-9582673-5-9.

So there is a strong conflict of interest potential here. But we're in a pretty good position to provide an authoritative text for Wikipedia. The book was written with the cooperation of Tino and was published in New Zealand 3 Nov 2009.

Nationality

[edit]

Tino's nationality is given as Dutch on http://www.cyclingwebsite.net/coureurfiche.php?coureurid=6195 Given that he grew up (mostly) in NZ, and he has lived in NZ for more than half of his life, I've listed him as a New Zealander in the infobox. I'll meet him next month and will clarify with him his preference.axel-schwede (talk) 08:23, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

We can't do that. We must have a reliable source (WP:RS) attesting to that. Personal accounts cannot be used. Dr.K. logos 14:16, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tino's biographer (Jonathan Kennett) has just told me Tino has held both Dutch and NZ citizenship since 1966 when he need NZ citizenship to ride for NZ in the Jamaican Commonwealth Games. 122.57.37.157 Paul Kennett (talk) 23:15, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. This is not enough according to the WP:RS policy. Is there a reliable source such as a book or newspaper that refers to this? Page numbers, ISBN numbers for books and inline citations (also see WP:CITE) are preferable. Dr.K. logos 00:49, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The book is out now: Tino Tabak: Dreams and Demons of a New Zealand Cycling Legend (2009). By Jonathan Kennett. Publisher: Kennett Brothers Limited, Wellington, New Zealand. ISBN 978-0-9582673-5-9. The section on his nationality is pages 58-60. Born in Holland 1946. Received NZ citizenship in 1966. Got a Dutch passport in 1968 (to race on the Dutch National Team) but retained his NZ citizenship. Paul Kennett (talk) 00:48, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
