What to include in a presidential timeline
[edit]- Firsts (presidential orders, Predator-drone attack, etc) - obviously this means it will be somewhat frontloaded
- Major speeches and announcements
- Signings of major pieces of legislation
- Foreign trips/Major diplomatic meetings
- Other major events by administration personnel (resignations, major diplomacy (Cuba/Iran/DPRK...), etc)
What not to include in a presidential timeline
[edit]- Routine activities (calls, meetings, weekly addresses, trips to Capitol Hill, etc)
- Unremarkable ceremonies (obscure legislation/executive orders, obscure nominations/speeches/announcements, etc)
- When in doubt, many items can be judged by how much coverage they generate (breadth and depth).
- Actions or comments by others that are not members of the administration
To sum it up, basically use commonsense, and discuss things that are borderline or questionable. ―Buster7 ☎ 21:36, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
What belongs in a presidential timeline
[edit]A timeline, especially a presidential timeline, needs to be succinct and to the point. A lean mean machine. The barest of information. The president did this, he signed that. The administration took this action, the vice-president did such and such. It should not include stuff like "the families of 9/11 victims tell Biden not to attend memorial" or the ridiculous comments of Ronny Jackson. [edit] and [edit] are irresponsible and outside the framework of a proper Wikipedia presidential timeline. I removed them once and they were returned to the article. Please discuss to prevent an edit war. ―Buster7 ☎ 22:18, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- I have been looking over some of the ancillary Joe Biden pages today out of curiosity, noticed this. Concur 100%. ValarianB (talk) 17:06, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- The timelines for Trump's presidency only include things that Trump (or others in his administration) did. Therefore, the timelines of Biden's presidency should do the same. --Numberguy6 (talk) 20:55, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- Trump's timelines also include things that had a significant impact on him or his administration, and the contested items on this article have not. --Numberguy6 (talk) 19:30, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
