He's a grandson of Hilary Arthur Reuel Tolkien, then? Ausir 13:51, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the son of Julian Tolkien... who is the middle-son of Hilary Tolkien. --CBD 13:59, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I added a Tolkien family tree to Tolkien Estate to show this and other relationships. --CBD 18:40, 15 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

[edit]

SqueakBox, I don't mean to be rude, but can please I ask you why you blanked the entire Tim Tolkien page (excluding its links) on March 5th? Avador 03:53, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well spotted. I did it completely by accident and didn't know I had till you pointed it out today. Whoops indeed. I was in the same class as Tolkien at school for four years so I am a bit gutted at what I did as basically I am very pleased to see his article here and indeed was trying to improve it (with a link to a pic of him as I wanted to see how 27 years had changed him and he was unrecognizable) when this accidental deletion occurred. Thanks for pointing it out to me, SqueakBox 14:56, 8 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pere Lachaise

[edit]

One of the memorials to the victims of World War II in Père Lachaise Cemetery is claimed to have been made by Tim Tolkien. I think it is a very moving sculpture, should this not be mentioned? I would have uploaded a picture but then I would probably have been in violation of the "droit d'auteur". JHvW 18:18, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To mention this we need reliable sources that it was made by Tim. And yes, we can only use a photo if it is in the public domain or released under an acceptable copyright disclaimer. ♫ RichardWeiss talk contribs 18:35, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Where did you read this? Nothing shows up on a Google search. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:11, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This is not something I have read, it is something I have seen. I regularly visit Père Lachaise. Because it is so huge, I do not think I have seen it all, yet. One of the most moving parts of the cemetery is the area where there are memorials to the "Death Camps" (sections 76, 77 and 97, it also where the "Mur de Fédérés" is). A guide told me that the monument to Auschwitz III was sculpted by Tim Tolkien, but I have no guarantuee that that statement is accurate. Personally I was not even aware of Tim Tolkien, but as the name rang a bell I looked him up. Hence my remark here. I did not change it in the article for exactly the reason that I could not find a reliable reference and the guide could of course be mistaken. My worry is also that Tolkien is relatively young, and I have the feeling that the sculpture is quite old. There are many guidebooks, but my experience is that they are often very inaccurate, and if this is where the guide got his information from, it is not unlikely that the information is incorrect.
