Sources of the map: See list of municipalities in the Provinces of León, Zamora, Salamanca, Palencia and Valladolid of the existing administrative regions known as "Tierra de Campos.Xufanc (talk) 21:54, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What is the point of denying that there is a Tierra de Campos in León?

The administrative region "Tierra de Campos" doesn´t exist, it´s only a natural region in those provinces, without official limits or boundaries. --Rodelar (talk) 23:31, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are right. It was a lapsus on my part. Instead of 'regions' it should have read administrative 'units', that is the municipalities.Xufanc (talk) 14:17, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with that map of León is that the source, in my opinion, could be considered as not reliable.
That’s not the case, for example, of the province of Palencia, which has been made by the Diputación Provincial and it is used in their publications and distributions, although most of the authors think that municipalities like Espinosa de Villagonzalo or Bárcena de Campos are not in the region. In this case, therefore, there is a reliable source –and institutional-.
Not only Justo González Garrido thinks that the river Cea is the northwestern border of the region. In fact, with slight differences, this is the general consensus about the topic. Thus, Pedro Plans -who considers that the region between rivers Carrión and Pisuerga is not Tierra de Campos- doesn’t disagree with González Garrido in this issue.
Neither the publishing company Lancia (from León) nor the writer Jesús Torbado have significant differences with the other authors. Jesús Torbado, who wrote Tierra mal bautizada: Un viaje por Tierra de Campos and passed his childhood in San Pedro de las Dueñas –be careful because there are two hamlets in León called like that-, considers that Sahagún and some little hamlets like Arenillas de Valderaduey, Galleguillos de Campos or San Pedro de las Dueñas are part of the region. That’s it, the stripe in the Leonese Province would be a bit wider, but quite similar anyway.
There is a book which focuses directly on this topic: El mito de Tierra de Campos. Ensayo en torno al disimetrismo del Río Cea. I read this book on the Internet a few months ago, but unfortunately it is not available anymore. Anyway, we can read in this book that ‘Nobody in El Burgo Ranero, Santas Martas nor Villamuñío consider theirselves as part of Tierra de Campos’ http://www.diariodeleon.es/noticias/noticia.asp?pkid=91682
To sum up, there is a narrow stripe of Tierra de Campos in the province of León; nobody denies it. The stripe of this map is too wide and big for a vast majority of authors.
And of course, a denomination like , which is the name of an agrarian region, does not mean that all the villages in this region belong to Campos, in the same way that Guadalajara, in Castilla-La Mancha, is not part of the region of La Mancha.

PD: I am the author of the González Garrido’s map, but of course, I am not against of the use of other maps.
According to what you state, some corrections need to be made in the page Anexo:Municipios de la provincia de León in the Spanish Wikipedia, which I used as complementary source. There, for example, El Burgo Ranero appears as: El Burgo Ranero (Esla-Campos, Tierra de Campos) and Santas Martas as Santas Martas (Tierra de Campos, Esla-Campos), which makes the definite location confusing. In that article, data related to shires are wrong. Because of the province of León have no official division into shires, each site appears in a different shire depending on the source consulted. --Rodelar (talk) 22:23, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Corrections

[edit]

I have removed El Burgo Ranero and Santas Martas municipalities from the list in the article. Please feel free to remove other municipal terms that should not be considered as part of Tierra de Campos. I have also made the corresponding alterations in the map, narrowing the Leonese area.Xufanc (talk) 09:40, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
