Adding content to Thomas Slingsby Duncombe entry
[edit]It pained me to see Thomas Slingsby Duncombe as a stub so I've added some content. When I get more time I plan on dividing into sub-heads and activating links (unless anyone else wants to...) Stay tuned. --stephen duncombe 16:27, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I've a question about the following sentence:
"Duncombe was elected and then returned to his seat seven times by the shopkeepers, artisans and laborers, the Nonconformists, Catholics, and Jews of Finsbury"
I find that unlikely, it wasn't until the Reform act of 1867 that all male householders were enfranchised. Even after the Representation of the People Act in 1884 40% of all males could not vote, therefore I would think that labourers and some shopkeepers and artisans didn't get the vote until after WW1. - Richard Evans Sept. 2011
