Requested move
[edit]{ {requested move/dated|Thomas Powell (1641–1722)} }
Thomas Powell (1665–1731) → Thomas Powell (1641–1722) – The information in this article is about the TP who lived 1641-1722, and who is red-linked in Bethpage Purchase. I am unaware of anything that makes TP (1665-1731) notable. -- JimWae (talk) 20:33, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
- Could you please provide a reference or two? The article is unreferenced and the dob/dod dates were only changed in the most recent edit to the article [1], and that was by a very new editor. Jenks24 (talk) 18:52, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

- I cannot find any "story" worth an article about TP 1665-1731 except in relationship to his father, who does have a story. The dates were a mistake from the very beginning of the article. I did not know this article even existed - as only 1 article linked to it - by mistake -- whereas at least about 8 pages would link to the father.--JimWae (talk) 19:48, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- There's not lots about his life except in genealogies & his role in the Bethpage Purchase - but there is enough to have an article on him . The TP that did the Bethpage Purchase in 1687 (& 1695) did not occupy that land at age 22 with his Quaker father still alive, he was the 46 yr old. There's enough to just start an article on the elder TP, but I wanted to carry the history from this article--JimWae (talk) 22:49, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
- Support, uncontroversial - I think Jenks meant add the sources into the article. I've added one. Evidently someone created with the wrong birth date. I also redlinked from the Bethpage, New York article. In ictu oculi (talk) 23:48, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Revise request due to Old Style year
[edit]{ {requested move/dated|Thomas Powell (1641–1722)} }
Thomas Powell (1665–1731) → Thomas Powell (1641–1722) –
- Reasons same as on Apr 19. Revision because sources had not resolved Old Style year --JimWae (talk) 07:46, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
- Powell died February 28, 1722 [O.S. February 28, 1721] Acc to MOS:DATES#Calendars it should be Thomas Powell (1641–1722). Can I just revise the request?? I just did - at least at top of this page. --JimWae (talk) 07:46, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
- Support I'd be inclined to say if you can move it yourself just do so. In ictu oculi (talk) 15:37, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
- I moved the page & checked & fixed backlinks. --JimWae (talk) 20:44, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
- Good, I can't believe anyone will have a problem, I've put a notability tag on the other TP, his son. Cannot find any trace of notability. But not sure if afD or redirect is the correct way to deal with it. Because so many other sources hoover up WP (including mistakes) the wrong Thomas Powell now has WP-copiers notability... Rim of Woods
[edit]Deed No 2. 12 March 1699
Land, bounded southwesterly by Oysterbay Neck line, west by the lines or bounds of the Town of Hempstead, so running northerly to a certain marked tree of Rob't Williams his bounds, thence along by a Ridge of Trees between the bushy plains and the great plains until it comes to a swamp or hole of water called by the Indian name of Mosscopas near the Mannetto hill; east by Thomas Powells (former purchase of ) land.
Not clear this is a purchase from the Indians. It appears to include Plainedge, most of western Bethpage ,and parts of Plainview --JimWae (talk) 00:38, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Alleged indenture
[edit]Thomas Powell was an attorney to Captain Thomas Matthews of Huntington, NY. The referenced court deposition clearly indicates that Powell was in service (indentured) to Matthews. Reference to his masters book, means the books of Matthews. See the article by the Huntington Town Historian Robert C. Hughes. https://huntingtonhistory.com/2022/05/07/thomas-powell/ 98.11.97.194 (talk) 15:33, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
