Thomas McCarthy (actor) → Tom McCarthy (director) – Been known as Tom McCarthy for many years now, and has become much better known under that name — and as a writer-director — than he did as Thomas, or indeed, as an actor. Not to mention he's the frontrunner for Best Director at the Oscars this year. Film Fan 13:21, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
- Support move per WP:COMMONNAME. HarrySnake (talk) 18:25, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
- Note to closer: HarrySnake is a suspected sock per Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/AS92813.—Bagumba (talk) 12:03, 29 November 2015 (UTC)
- Ha, I hope he's not because he's the only to reply so far! Film Fan 21:26, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

- Support since as a reader, I actually had trouble finding this person's article. "(actor)" is too limiting, especially considering his directorial success with Spotlight. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 15:09, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Tom McCarthy (director) → ? – I have started an RM discussion at Talk:Tom McCarthy (writer) to be less confused with the American director/writer. Anyway, shall we choose Tom McCarthy (writer and director), Tom McCarthy (American writer), Tom McCarthy (screenwriter), or Tom McCarthy (filmmaker)? George Ho (talk) 02:43, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
- "(writer and director)" is clumsy; definitely not the "writer" suggestions; maybe "filmmaker". But I'd be inclined to Oppose any move and instead move the other name to novelist or author. — Film Fan 10:31, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose in general any such malformed RM where the proposer hasn't come up with a proposal. Dicklyon (talk) 03:45, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. The English writer can be renamed to avoid any ambiguity, so there is no need for any renaming of this article. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:55, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
