I moved the lyrics to Wikisource, per the central discussion, but I do not believe the central discussion mandated that all fight songs be merged with the university article. If this were to be suggested, I would expect a standard merge discussion regardless. Thanks!--Patrick«»16:05, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just following wp:BRD. I was not merging those songs which had a life of their own outside of the Universities' athletic departments, or had a very long and well sourced article. This particular one is halfway in between, as it has a lot written, but isn't well sourced and doesn't provide any more info that how to sing it. I've merged the text into the main U.'s article, so lets see how that goes. Meanwhile I'd like to see if we can get consensus per existing global consensus at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Fight songs to redirect this to the main U.'s page. Besides the problems of dumping this article in without copyediting or locating sources, the fight song is a minor part of the University, and three whole paragraphs in addition to the note in the Athletics section looks painfully out of place in the the main U.'s page. As I've said, it goes much better on the Georgetown Hoyas article, where this article was split off from and where I've kept a short section about it. Doesn't that make more sense to you? Not the main university page, which is primarily about academics, but the athletics page instead. As I read it, the decision was only that "fight song information has a place in the main university page," not that all articles must immediately be merged without specific discussion. Lastly, I don't expect a problem proving notability here, and I don't see any consensus for wholesale deletion of articles. Therefore, I will revert the dumping of this page into Georgetown University.--Patrick«»20:58, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well I don't know the copyright status. As the article states, two of the three songs were written before 1923, but the third wasn't, and the combined version wasn't published until 1930. However, there is no known author and I don't know if the school could even claim ownership if they wanted. So I'll play nice and safe and leave the lyrics at WikiSource, where I moved them this week.--Patrick«»07:33, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
