Talk:The World Crisis

Was waiting for someone to create this page, so I'm glad it's happened. The academic commentary to be consulted is Robin Prior Churchill's World Crisis as History (1983). Hard to get hold of, but I have a copy.
Analyses Churchill's apologia for his time at the Admiralty - much of what WSC writes about that topic needs to be treated with extreme caution. On the other hand Prior vindicates Churchill's arguments about the Somme and comprehensively refutes Oman's attempt to massage the German casualty figures upwards. Will add commentary but it will be an as-and-when job.Paulturtle (talk) 03:07, 29 October 2014 (UTC)
Still haven't got round to doing this - so many things to write about, and life is too short - but the other thing which springs to mind skimming down the article is the stuff about money from Manchester (1983). This will need to be supplemented by more up-to-date stuff from Peter Clarke's study of his writing career ("Mr Churchill's Profession") and David Lough's groundbreaking research into his finances ("No More Champagne") - WSC used to get huge advances for his books and often blow them on stockmarket and currency speculation, although IIRC he did use some of the proceeds from TWC to pay for some of Chartwell.Paulturtle (talk) 05:30, 4 July 2017 (UTC)
