The English could be better in the article '...much to his crossness' should surely be 'indignation'? The tone does read more like an article by an avid fan rather than something objective, ie, the description of the character of Ludovic Lavenham 'a very romantic character' etc. There's only one very positive quote given by way of criticism of the novel. I'm no expert on Heyer, and that image of that old cover was excellent, but I was looking for some links to a series of reviews ranging from glowing to disparaging, etc, and was disappointed just to find this. {{Kinraid 23 October 2014}}

Having said that, I realize that there isn't a lot of criticism on historical romance as it's popular literature.
