The Royal Ballet

[edit]

The changes to this page should not have been made. The correct name of the ballet company (as per its royal charter) is The Royal Ballet (notwithstanding what some new marketing materials may suggest) and the deletion of the definite article does not accord with the wiki policy on article names. That's correct – the company's name is The Royal Ballet (just as the opera company is The Royal Opera). Would you be happy for me to revert these changes? OperaBalletRose (talk) 17:26, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes please. I'd do it myself but I don't think I'd be much good at the swapping pages around bit! Lee McLernon 09:23, 6 December 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bbombbardier (talkcontribs)
Great, thanks – all done! OperaBalletRose (talk) 16:48, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Excellent; many thanks. Lee McLernon 08:18, 7 December 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bbombbardier (talkcontribs)

The article has a 'further' style link to List of works performed by The Royal Ballet, but that list has not been developed in the past several years from a stub containing only 3 works under the letter A: the sections for B .. Z have never existed. Would anyone like to complete it, or should it just be deleted, along with the link here? Chiswick Chap (talk) 20:33, 22 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Principal dancer section

[edit]

I have to ask, why is this section in table format? Hong Kong Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Charlotte Ballet, English National Ballet, Ballet West, San Francisco Ballet, Queensland Ballet and American Ballet Theatre are the only other English-language ballet company articles to feature this strikingly unattractive format. Apart from the New York City Ballet, which has its own article, List of NYCB dancers, which appears to be an attempt at an exhaustive list of every dancer, ever, with NYCB!

What I'm saying is, there should be a standard format, either all tables, or all columns. Thoughts?Sophoife (talk) 10:21, 21 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I personally like the table format because it seems like it highlights a bit more each dancer's info, but I'm curious to see what format you'd suggest? I think currently the division between tables and columns is being used as follows: tables to highlight current principal dancers and whatnot, and columns to highlight perhaps less notable folks like the corps de ballet. But I'm not entirely sure if this is supposed to some sort of standard format. I do think your question could get more attention at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dance? I'd be interested to see what folks over there would say Blue nutcracker (talk) 00:55, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Woops just noticed this question is like 7 years old. Hey Sophoife, do you mind if I ask your question over at the project? Or if you're still interested, would you mind posting it there? Blue nutcracker (talk) 00:57, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question about Alexandra Ansanelli

[edit]

Hi, Alexandra is a retired ballet dancer, but she was a principal dancer with the royal ballet for some years. I linked to her page in the notable people section because, since she's not currently a principal dancer it didn't make sense to put her in there, but I'm not entirely sure if it makes sense in that section. Can anyone advise? Do you agree? I think the page looks quite nice and has information and even pictures of her as a dancer during her tenure at the royal ballet, so it seemed like it would make a good addition to the page.
