Rye

From the text of the book, "rye" seems to mean gentleman. 80.2.204.209 (talk) 13:54, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Rye" or "rai" means "gentleman", "master", "king" (cf. Raja) in the Romani language. Hence, "Romany Rye" (or 'Romano Rai') could be rendered as "Romani gentleman" or even "King of the Gypsies". See the folk song quoted at Didicoy. —Zalktis (talk) 12:32, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
