Merge with Playboy Riots

[edit]

Supported - 'The Playboy Riots' information could easily be part of a subsection here. Additionally, only two pages (that aren't this one) link to 'Playboy Riots'; changing the links would hardly be difficult.Jayunderscorezero 19:45, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have merged the two and cleared the two other articles of the references to "Playboy riots".Lumendelumine 15:22, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on The Playboy of the Western World. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

Modern Perceptions

[edit]

The play has rarely appears on English Department university courses in Irish universities over the last couple of decades, having fallen out of favour, politically. These days, it appears to be regarded as anti-Irish. Not sure if this is worth a mention. Hanoi Road (talk) 17:46, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Addition to Performances

[edit]

There is a film of a theatrical performance not mentioned in the article. I watched it today, 10 August 2024, streaming on the TUBI channel:

The Druid Theatre Company Presentation of
“The Playboy of the Western World” by J. M. SYNGE
        Directed by Gary Hynes
From the Donmar Warehouse, Covent Garden, 1986

It features:

           Christy Mahon — Maeliosa Stafford
               Old Mahon — Mick Lally
          M. J. Flaherty — Paddy Dooney
       Margaret Flaherty — Brid Brennan
             Shawn Keogh — Sean McGinley
              Widow Quin — Marie Mullen

It is a proper original version of the play, and so enjoyable that I watched it twice. I believe that this could be listed in the article under the heading of Performances and under the sub-heading of Film and Television. Also, I believe that it’s a mistake to list the Roddy Doyle version under the heading of Performances, and that it should instead be listed under the sub-heading of Adaptations. Otherwise, I did appreciate reading your article after I viewed the film. If you have access to TUBI, watch it before it goes away. Cheers Frank LaSalle (talk) 02:14, 11 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
