[edit]The page states: quote: Mrs. Tompkins (Krista Braun) is Brick's social skills mentor and guidance counselor. He is also portrayed as lonely after his significant other left him, and now he lives with multiple cats. This is not only wrong but it doesn't make sense. Brick's counsellor is obviously a man (don't know his name) not Mrs.Tomkins
Mrs. Tompkins is one of Brick's teachers, Dr. Fulton is his guidance counselor. AVeryIntelligentSnowman (talk) 22:51, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Tone of Article
[edit]anyone else feel like the text here was written by the show's network? it sounds very much like advertising. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.250.155.126 (talk) 16:45, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
*When the article first popped up, it was REALLLLYYYYY bad that way. It read like a flowery promo for the show. At that time, I personally opened the article for editing and tossed an "advertising" tag on the top of the page. I paused, thought for a moment, and then removed the "advertising" tag, (without having saved it) and actually did a little bit of editing on the article to clean up the worst of it instead (didn't take much longer to actually try to be helpfull instead of snippy). Since I did that, lots of other people have cleaned it up even more (the wonderful Wiki community!) and it looks reasonably good to me in that regard; a relitively neutral description and character profiles, I think. Of course, there's always room for improvement... Fish Man (talk) 19:58, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
Similarities to Malcolm in the Middle
[edit]Related to the advertising slant, there are myriad blogs, reviews and forums scattered around the internet pointing out that whilst The Middle is indeed a dead ringer for Malcolm in the Middle, that is A Bad Thing. Problem is, I can't find a source that satisfies WP:SOURCE to counteract the "Yay! It's a remake of Malcolm!" tone in the current article. Can anyone else find one? 210.9.137.90 (talk) 16:14, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
- Try that it's written by different people who (according to imdb) have no relation to Malcolm or Linwood Boomer, for a different production company, and rival distributer. Fact remains, anyone who's seen it knows it's a rip-off - the youngest kid is a spit of an early Dewey, the eldest is a rebel (see Reese) the mom is similar in looks and styling (if not character) to Lois, the dad's a tad naive like Hal. The only saving graces is that the focus is on the mom and 'the middle' kid is thick as pig$#!+ and a girl. All this wouldn't be a problem if it had even a portion the caliber of Malcolm, but, in my opinion, the only humour to be found is with the dad (although I'm biased as a bit of a Neil Flynn fan - from Scrubs).
All in all it appears to be the bastard love-child of Malcolm in the Middle and Gilmore Girls.Angry Mustelid (talk) 05:27, 31 October 2010 (UTC)
- Please do not insert unsuitable personal opinions into article copy. Even though the comment was not visible to readers, it is still not acceptable practice to do such things. Thank you in advance. --Ckatzchatspy 21:43, 31 October 2010 (UTC)

AOL calls it "a dead ringer for Malcolm in the Middle with its realistic, wry take on regular family life"

(help)). And it's not just AOL; Fox issued a statement (which seems to have disappeared) shortly after "The Middle" was first aired stating that they would "not be seeking damages from Warner Bros. [...] copyright violation", and have since secured the international (at least European) rights to air the show. Why would they even consider this necessary if they did not think so (a bit of back passage dealing there). - My reasoning for putting it in comments was to draw attention to the fact in the hope that someone would add a Controversy section. Now they've got a ref, they can. I won't, because of my stance on the show.Angry Mustelid (talk) 01:24, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

I can't believe that nothing about this is mentioned in the article. I came to this wiki page to get a better picture on how these similarities came about, but as far as the article is concerned there is no connection. (Which simply cannot be true.) If the issue is that there is not a single shred of evidence of this then perhaps that can be mentioned in the article somehow. --71.191.85.144 (talk) 00:07, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

- Actually this show reminds me very much of the BBC's Outnumbered - I think they even specifically reference Outnumbered in one episode. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.164.165.162 (talk) 03:48, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
Agreed! I saw the show for the first time today, and was disgusted at how it was such an uninspired (and unfunny) rip off of MitM. The rather obvious FACT that this is a rip off of MitM really should be in the article. 75.139.170.90 (talk) 05:40, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Frankie's family
[edit]I notice that Mike's family are listed here in the recurring characters section... but we do not see Frankie's parents or sister... Surely they should be added, they have appeared more than once... Bleaney (talk) 15:27, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
Indian remake
[edit]The Middle is being remade by Indian TV channel Big Magic in Hindi language. The title of the show is Tedi Medi Family. More details can be found here. I think this information should be put in the main article also. --SlowPhoton (talk) 16:53, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
Separate page for cast?
[edit]Should we create a separate page for the cast members like some other shows have? This show has a ton of recurring characters so I think it would be a good idea. I will create it, just wanted some input from other users. Thank you.--Jonathan Joseph (talk) 01:33, 10 August 2015 (UTC)
Eden Sher
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedia editors! I am a current student at Austin College and I am interested in helping to improve Eden Sher’s Wikipedia page as part of a class project. I was thinking about adding more information to the personal life section, which could use some development. If you have any suggestions as to other parts of her page that could use some development or new sections that should be added to her page, feel free to let me know as I am willing to help improve this page as much as possible. Thank you for your help! Kmccamy14 (talk) 04:26, 3 November 2015 (UTC)
Southwestern Indiana?
[edit]Has the show ever said that Orson is in SW Indiana? The topography of the scene in the opening credits suggests Northern Indiana, all flat and cornfield-y (and, yes, I have been there). On the other hand, it also seems to suggest that it's a longer drive from Orson to Chicago than it would be from that part of the state. Daniel Case (talk) 02:32, 27 January 2016 (UTC)
