Talk:The Mercy Seat (song)

In the religious sense, the Mercy Seat is far more complicated, or has more nuances, than God's throne in heaven. changes might reflect this.

A later acoustic version by Cave was released on the album B-Sides & Rarities.

This is inaccurate. The acoustic version is from an EP released in the early 90s called Stripped. This also contained acoustic versions of "Deanna" and "City of Refuge", both in a gospel style. Cash's Solitary Man album definitely came later.

The B-sides and Rarities album is entirely made up of re-releases. There is no newly recorded material, and nothing that hadn't been released in the form it is on the album previously.

Actually, according to nick-cave.com's discography, the acoustic version was first released on a bonus CD called "Acoustic Versions from Tender Pray" with "The Good Son" in 1990, then reissued in Australia on the "Stripped" EP. I'm going to make some changes with this in mind. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.242.227.36 (talk) 02:55, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Over the course of the song the register is repeated and gradually altered from a defiant statement of innocence to admitting guilt and that he is deserving of death. - It's just one of many interpretations, it is never stated in lyrics that he admits being guilty or that he deserves to die. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.207.163.182 (talk) 20:41, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
