Schmendrick
Don't know if anyone cares, but the name Schmendrick is an obvious reference to one of the most famous characters in Yiddish theater. - Jmabel | Talk 22:52, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
-- It isn't actually a reference to the theater piece, but rather that both the character name and the play you cite are referencing the original Yiddish word "schmendrick," which translates roughly as "the boy sent to do a man's job." Peter has said in many interviews that he choose the name "Schmendrick" for his magician character as a deliberate Yiddish twist on the comic strip character "Mandrake the Magician." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.21.56.217 (talk) 16:50, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
plot summary
the plot summary for this novel is almost indistinguishable from the plot of the movie becuase it does not describe the events which happen in the movie but not in the book: The town shmendrick and the unicorn visit before thier capture by cully's men, and the time the group spends in hogsmede where they learn of the origins of Haggards castle. Other things are left out in the summary, such as the midnight carnival. Now, my question is was this intentionally left out for the sake of brevity? or does this need to be fixed?
Also, since the writing style of this book is unique, i think a section discussing it should be added. it seems no one visits this page very often, so if i do not see a response soon, then I will take that no one minds if i edit this. thank you (Nimue the mighty 13:05, 20 June 2007 (UTC))
upon Looking through the style manual, and the plot summaries of other novels, i have decided that the plot summary is one of the reasons that this is labelled as a "start" article, along with the slightly disjointed and clumsy phrasing in the Themes section. I will be editing this slowly, and when i'm more satisfied with it, i will probably submit it for re catergorization or whatever. I cannot, however, shake the feeling that i'm talking to myself on this talk page. anyways, i hope i do a good job as i love this book dearly and hope i do it justice. it seems that i might be the only one editing this page at present, so if anyone stumbles across this, and has some feed back, please leave some or leave me a message on my usertalk page. Merge?
I just recently posted on the film version's discussion page requesting that I merge both articles since they share such large plot summaries and thematical information. I'm still a wikipedia newbie, so I'm waiting for some sort of permission before I do so, but I have no problem fixing the problems in BOTH this page and the film page if no one seems to mind the merger. I just finished a MAJOR restructuring of the Two Hearts page, so why not these? If we do the merge, I'll do everything I can to get this article to FA status.

- Nevermind -- the merge is off, unless someone wants to contest the Films Based on Books project. I'll just do what I can to upgrade the status of this article then. --Yoshiaki Abe 16:10, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
Recent Major Edits
Hey everyone. Sorry if I compressed things *too* much in this revision, but I was really trying to stick to the Style Guidelines, since I'm not too happy that my favorite book is a "start-class" article. I had to stick with the guidelines, especially for plot summaries, hence most of the extraneous details of the plot summary being omitted. It is mentioned there that good plot summary sections eliminate the need for a character description section, but since the Last Unicorn is a fantasy book at heart, I think this layout is more appropriate. If anyone can make this better, then by all means, please do. --Yoshiaki Abe 17:52, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Movie
This part in the movie section doesn't seem quite clear to me: "As part of any such deal he stated that he would seek to reacquire the rights to the original, enabling the production of a single unified multi-film franchise." Who stated that? And what exactly does that mean, he'll make multiple movies? Turn it into a series? --Mithcoriel (talk) 20:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
