The foreign sharptooth

[edit]

K00bine, I didn't notice someone else shared my view about that foreign sharptooth being a Giganotosaurus until I viewed the history of that page. I ain't gonna indulge in some "edit war" with you over that but im up for a discussion if that's an option. Let me know and I'll list the obvious facts that proves it's a Giganotosaurus and then we can decide what's best for the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.65.196.182 (talk) 15:56, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What proof is there that it is a Giganotosaurus?

Is it identified as one by name in the film? Is it identified as one by one of the filmmakers? It certainly doesn't *look* like one, beyond being big and having three fingers. It could be any number of large, meat eating, three fingered dinosaurs, or even a made-up one. I've even seen it identified as a Carnotaurus; it's clear there's no general consensus on what it's supposed to be.

Until a citation can be found that states the Anonymous Sharptooth is anything specific (such as a Giganotosaurus), claiming it to be one would be Original Research, which wikipedia forbids explicitly. This is why I removed the reference, and this is also why the List of Sharpteeth was removed from the main Sharptooth article.

Well, it obviously is not a T-rex.

What dinosaur in the series is ever "identified" by anyone on the crew? They do call e.g. Triceratops "three-horns" much like the T-rexes "sharpteeth" or anything related to one.

It doesn't look like one? Are you serious?

can u not c the resemblance? 3 claws... slightly larger than a T-rex, a distinctive pattern of patches running down its back... it cant be a Carnotaurus cuz the head shape is different, a Giganotosaurus doesnt have a spikey frame or those two horns pointing out of its face. U tell me, what sort of dinosaur resembles a T-rex, has 3 claws instead of 2 other than a Giganotosaurus? Made up? Yeah right. How many fictional dinosaur species exist in TLBT series? None? Propose that a Giganotosaurus is the only fictional species created in the series... what would be the point of that?

Also, i can guarantee that if you ran a survey, most people would agree its a Giganotosaurus. Then again, a majority consensus doesnt necessarily make it a fact. just something to consider. Better yet, we can add to the article "thought by most fans to be a Giganotosaurus." Would that be better? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.65.196.182 (talk) 22:53, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The official website identifies the species of each of the main characters. So does the DVD extra features. According to these sources, Ducky is a Parasaurolophus, not a Saurolophus as fans claim her to be; this shows that we cannot place any measure of authority, reliability or credibility on fan observations.

Allosaurus, Carcharodontosaurus, Mapusaurus, Torvosaurus, Tyrannotitan, Saurophaganax, Epanterias, Deltadromeus, among many others, if you'd be bothered to do some research. The Foreign Sharptooth doesn't resemble a Giganotosaurus any more than it resembles any of these other large, three-fingered carnosaurs.

How many fictional dinosaur species exist in TLBT series?

Elsie, the giant aquatic reptile, was obviously made-up, or was at least given a lot of artistic license. Elasmosaurs had no fins on their heads, nor did they grow that big. Likewise, Rooter, from the original film, isn't readily identifiable as any real ankylosaurid, and was likely just made up on the spot, since he was added to the film retroactively. The "Tinysauruses" were also fictional.

Better yet, we can add to the article "thought by most fans to be a Giganotosaurus." Would that be better?

Not really. It'd still be sneaking fanon into the article.

I see you are more educated than I am with respect to Dinosaurs. I guess I should leave it all to you then, since I dunno any more than you do.

However, I got a question about that list of "Sharptooth" dinosaurs you gave above: what is the official species name those group of dinos belong to? When I look up Giganotosaurus and Tyrannosaurus, I see they both belong to the same species starting at the Sub-order: theropoda. So, maybe we could call that foreign Sharptooth a theropod in the article? That would give it a more descriptive meaning as opposed to something vague and unimformative like "foreign sharptooth, different sharptooth, another dinosaur." That makes it sound to the reader like a sharptooth of the same frame as Chomper's parents but yellow instead of brown/black, or something. There must be a way to accurately describe that other Sharptooth in the article as obviously a different but related species to Chomper's parents. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.65.142.36 (talk) 18:04, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Foreign Sharptooth, Theropod, Carnosaur, call it whatever you want so long as you aren't too specific.

K00bine (talk) 19:19, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah! Carnosaur looks to me the most economic term. Less specific than "Giganotosaurus," "Carnotaurus" but less broad than simply calling it a "foreign sharptooth" or "theropod."70.65.142.36 (talk) 06:42, 17 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is most certainly a Giganotosaurus. It cannot be a Carnotaurus or an Allosaurus, as they have already appeared in the franchise and look different. Plus, this thing was bigger than the T. rex in the film and had three fingers. Giganotosaurus was also discovered a few years earlier. Hypnobrai (talk) 02:42, 31 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

De-linking the songs.

[edit]

I have removed the links from the songs, because 1. They are red links. 2. The songs are not likely to be notable enough for their own Wikipedia articles, anyway. 3. If they aren't notable, then having the red links blaring like sirens at the readers will possibly entice users, particularly newbies or fans, to create those pages, only to have them deleted right in front of their eyes. I've done this for their sake, therefore. Mess around with the guy in shades all you like - don't mess around with the girl in gloves! (talk) 06:48, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
