Midi?

Some of the other anthems (Das Lied der Deutschen) have a MIDI attached; this doesn't. It could stand to get one; hamienet.com might have one.

Definately send non english lyrics to Wikisource. Saul Taylor 16:38, 12 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Definitely not. We have local versions of national anthems too. And this is an international song, so all languages are relevant here. --Wik 17:36, Mar 12, 2004 (UTC)
Wik: I disagree. The are links to the wikipedias in others languages. It's a nonsense translate to all languages in every wikipedia. Sanbec 07:38, 28 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I dunno, in other languages, we might not understand enough of the surrounding content to identify the lyrics, and especially in the case of foreign character sets, they're unlikely to be kind enough to transpose it into an english-phonetic form for us. Improv
What is more, I'd add literal translations here. As you might notice, the texts vary significantly. Mikkalai 19:38, 3 May 2004 (UTC)
I also suggest that we add discussion of the French lyrics, because they are the original and thus have historical significance. The current page seems to lack analysis of the lyrics. - Teucer

It is rousing I must admit. One recording on the linked page is of a "modern" english version not included on the page. Anyone know what the deal is?--Samuel J. Howard 20:33, 3 May 2004 (UTC)

Someone called Billy Bragg decided that the traditional English translation is unsingable, and did a new 'interpretation' that's more singable (although it's been criticized that this new translation is also "watered down" -- it lacks the antireligious phrase in the first bit, and is generally less militant). On the upside, there are very good, orchestrated recordings of his version available, while I have yet to find a similarly good English recording of the proper version. Improv

Just a sidenote: isn't it funny there is no Russian wikipage for International? Mikkalai 20:45, 3 May 2004 (UTC)

Neither the lyrics of the English version nor the foreign versions should be here. See Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Don't include copies of primary sources.
Obviously it is useful to have translations of foreign character sets into roman letters but these can go on Wikisource. Nothing will be lost if the current marathon list of lyrics is turned into a comprehensive set of links to a page for each version of the anthem on wikisource placed at the end of the article.

I agree that the number of translations listed was over the top. But now they have just disappeared, and there is only a single link to wikisource rather than the comprehensive set suggested. Also, I note that apart from the russian version, there is no information about translators and translation dates. Giving the original french, and an english translation, exclusively, would be useful to make points about the contents and the translation (for example, it seems that in an earlier translation, starvelings was used to render damnes de la terre, rather than the rather less charged workers. Also, note that Hymn of the Soviet Union follows this practice by giving the russian and english versions. The guidelines say, don't include primary resources, unless your article analyzes the primary source paragraph-by-paragraph, which could be a reasonable aim for this article. dab 11:03, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)

A year later and someone has added Cyrillic, Latin(?) as well as English lyrics. Given the consensus on the talk page that translations should be kept to a minimum, is this appropriate? Regardless of wheather the page will have lyrics, I think the pecuiliar table of contents needs to be revised. ~CS 01:09, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
