Added information

[edit]

The statement "Classic Hits previously only operated in the main centres of New Zealand however the network into provincial and regional areas on statons such as 3ZE through the inclusion of frequencies previously used by stations that were part of the Community Radio Network that was also operated by TRN." - was removed because it was 'incorrect' while I can't argue that the network may have started out in Auckland (this may be incorrect - I believe classic hits was created as a brand based on Main centre stations rather than an individual station) I am certain that the network was recently rolled out to include many "Community Network" stations including 3ZE. The Community Network stations used a separate feed overnight to classic hits and the feed came from one of the member stations rather than Auckland. I suggest that this information is re-included. I have added information on each local Classic Hits station however the information given is mostly what can be obtained from the website. Where some regions are more detailed this is because I have more knowledge of these areas having listened to Classic Hits in these areas over the years. Anyone who has knowledge of any of the other stations feel free to add.

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Changes June 2015

[edit]

I am making several changes to this page to bring it closer to good article status.

  • References: This article included some great content, but very little of it was referenced. I have removed content that cannot be referenced via Google, Google Scholar, Google Books, public libraries, university libraries, newspaper archives and other accessible secondary sources. I have added content that is referenced to secondary sources, like books, journal articles and third party websites.
  • Infobox/lead: I have edited the infobox, to include co-ordinates and other relevant details. I have edited the lead, to focus on why the subject is notable for someone unfamiliar with the topic, as per WP:LEAD. I have added references, as per WP:CITE.
  • History: I have edited the history section, keeping the sentences simple and the order chronological. I have adjusted the structure, as per WP:SECTIONS. I have added references for everything, as per WP:CITE.
  • Music: I have created a new section describing music, merging "music" and "slogans" sections. I have converted the content to encyclopedic prose, as per WP:PROSE and WP:WPRS. I have added references, as per WP:CITE.
  • Broadcasting: I have removed the schedule and former announcers tables, as per WP:NOTRADIOGUIDE and WP:WPRS. I have created a new section describing programmes, merging "programmes", "individual stations", "previous nationwide announcers", as per WP:PROSE and WP:WPRS. I have added references, as per WP:CITE. I have created a section listing broadcast methods, following the example of BBC Radio 1, RNZC, RNZI and Newstalk ZB. I have included Template:Frequency and iHeartRadio stations.
  • Individual stations: I have split "individual stations" sections to relevant articles on each station as per WP:SPLIT. These sections made the table of contents and page length unwieldy, as per WP:SIZESPLIT. These sections also contained details that were relevant and important to the individual stations but not the network as a whole, as per WP:CONSPLIT. Each heritage station has been added to the history section (at the point it joined the network) and to the broadcasting section (at the frequency it previously broadcast), as per WP:PROPERSPLIT.
  • Other services: I have created a section describing events and promotions, news and information, and the website and social media, with secondary sources and limited primary sources.

The best place for referenced information about the history of heritage stations is on the articles for those stations.Paewiki (talk) 05:19, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have consulted the previous article assessment, the good article criteria, the Wikipedia policies and guidelines, and the relevant WikiProject guidelines to bring this article closer to good article status. I have split some parts of this article, and I have removed a very small amount of information I couldn't find any reference to support. I have tried to explain and justify every change I have made. This article has now been upgraded B-Class by WikiProject New Zealand. Please don't revert explained edits without any explanation, and please don't replace referenced content with unreferenced content. Thank you. Paewiki (talk) 13:45, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Comment moved from User talk:Paewiki by User:Paewiki: Hi, I reverted The Hits article as the changes appear to have obliterated much of the information that was in the previous article, the previous has been in that format since about 2006 and is in line with the other NZ radio station articles such as More FM and The Breeze. The information in the previous article was mostly sourced from those who actually have worked in the radio industry in the past, a large contributor was the writer of a website "The Radio Vault" which is no longer in action. Some of the edits have also made the information incorrect for example the line "Wellington Goldtime Oldies B90FM and Christchurch's Goldtime Oldies B98FM joined the network in 1996.[14]" is incorrect, Wellington and Christchurch became part of Classic Hits in 1993/94 along with the other stations and used the Classic Hits logo from then but their music format was different. I do agree the article needs a tidy up but needs to be done in a way that doesn't remove information and make the information incorrect. Also I think the details of each stations needs to be retained perhaps not in the way this was previously but in some way. Bhowden (talk) 00:32, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

List of changes made 18/6

  • First paragraph removed line to say station is local as The Hits is not a true local station more a networked radio station with limited local content.
  • Removed the 1949 start date as some of the individual stations would have started before this date. The Auckland station is an off shot of 1ZM which goes back to the 1920s, replaced with a line mentioning stations were started when the NZ Government had a monopoly of the airwaves.
  • On the list of initial stations removed Radio Waitaki as this was one of the stations to be rebranded in 2001.
  • Loosely mentioned show times in a non table format
  • Changed the daytime programming slightly, AJ presents his show to Christchurch only.
