Crystal palace

[edit]

Should mention that it was apparently displayed rather prominently in the 1851 London Crystal Palace exhibition... AnonMoos (talk) 17:00, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Scholar reflects on this article

[edit]
The Smithsonian American Art Museum curator for sculpture, Karen Lemmey, talks about the Wikipedia entry for The Greek Slave by Hiram Powers, one of the most famous statues in the world, and how the article could be improved (skip to 10 minutes and 55 seconds for the start of the detailed critique)

This expert critiqued this Wikipedia article in 2015; there may be useful guidelines for future editors on how to improve the article. More info here: Wikipedia:Meetup/DC/AAM COMM535 2015 @Fuzheado: -Pete (talk) 17:53, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • As the video makes clear, the plaster is not simply the original version of the statue: it was a step in the process of creating the finished marble statues in Powers' studio under his direction. I've updated the article to reflect this, rather than imply that the Smithsonian's plaster version is the original and the marbles are just copies. They are not just copies as they have finished detail absent from the plaster. Tanos (talk) 01:38, 12 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
