USA "WASP"

[edit]

The USA section asserts that "(WASPs) are elites". That is an overly broad, simple minded, way of wording this. I suggest we reword it to point out the prominence of WASPs in the American social structure, without painting everyone in that category with the same brush. Some are 'elites', some are not. Please leave your fascistic generalizations about entire groups of people out of Wikipedia. 2601:18F:4101:4830:DCA2:DFA:B8B6:4DF1 (talk) 06:51, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone who thinks there's a "WASP elite" in the US in the year 2024 needs to back this up with recent RSes and not sources talking about the 1950s. Few people under the age of 50 know what this term means, and under the age of 30 they'll think you're talking about an insect.
Maybe a line or two could mention that the term "the Establishment" was historically used to describe "WASPs", but is decidedly not how this term is used in the 21st Century. It refers mainly to the political, media, business and entertainment elite, who don't fit any sort of 'WASP' profile. Jonathan f1 (talk) 02:01, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
