I admit I can't just now see a way of doing it succinctly but a duet of the quality of No 6 in Act I of the Chalabala recording suggests the opera is being sold rather short if a plot synopsis at least isn't included. The Supraphon effort is, in translation, impenetrable. One of the difficulties might be instanced by the immediate drastic undermining of the aforementioned duet by a very interventionist and active Devil, who is up to far more than damming the Vltava, most of which is ignored by the Supraphon synopsis. One at least of the two UK sources (the other link doesn't produce anything and both are behind the same paywall) does indicate that one of Smetana's themes is the possibility of happiness late in life.Delahays (talk) 12:02, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
