Article name confusion

[edit]

Would this article be better titled as "The courier (D.C. Thompson)" as it does not refer exclusively to the Dundee edition of the newspaper, which is one of several.M.T.S.W.A. (talk) 13:00, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect text about R S Rintoul and dealing with The Dundee Advertiser

[edit]

The text " In 1809 it was taken over by Robert Rintoul who used the paper to campaign for political reform, and criticism of local politicians such as Alexander Riddoch" is wrong. Although this cited to Enid Gauldie's biography of Riddoch, I have checked the source and she does not make this claim - rather she, identifies Rintoul as becoming editor of The Dundee Advertiser in 1808. This is indeed the paper R S Rintoul edited, as is stated in his article, rather than its rival The Courier. The Advertiser did of course merge with the Courier in 1926, so perhaps its history should be covered here in some detail. Alternately, given that for much of its history it was a far more significant newspaper than the pre-1926 Courier there might be a case for it having its own article. However the question is what to do with this text? I think the options are 1) delete it as misleading 2) amend it to make it clear it relates to The Advertiser and move it to a paragraph or section specifically dealing with that article. I would welcome other editors opinions on the way forward. Dunarc (talk) 22:45, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
