Difference grosses
[edit]At the moment there are two different gross figures for this film either according to Box office mojo or according to a French website which reports a higher worldwide gross. Firstly I wanted to avoid the unnecessary use of "/" in prose per MOS:SLASH. Then I wanted to explain in a way that an normal reader could understand why the article was bothering to list two different gross figures. (The basic assumption is that Box office mojo has failed to update their totals and the higher gross report from a French website is therefore worth including.)
The Variety reference from September said the film has sold "8 million tickets locally (as of Sept. 9) and grossing over $75 million" (not 9 million admissions as the text previously claimed).[1] The Box Office Mojo website says the film has grossed $74,992,007 worldwide,[2] which is less than (not over) $75 million Variety was reporting in September. Box Office Mojo has a bad habit of not updating international grosses (if you know you know) they might update eventually, they might not. The French website Cine-directors.net (date 29 December 2024) says the total worldwide gross was €100 million.[3]
It is a mess of contradictory sources. My attempt to fix it may not have been perfect but reverting the text to claim things the Variety source didn't say is not constructive either. -- 109.77.198.204 (talk) 17:33, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
- Box Office Mojo is traditionally used on here as a sort of sacred page and the numbers it provides as something inherently useful, without caveats. That should not be the case. It is a flawed database with glaring holes, particularly for non-US films.--Asqueladd (talk) 18:00, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
