Added 'Controversy' Section

[edit]

Being a fan of the show and watching it on Hulu, I can not help to notice the reaction from the public about its stereotyping of African Americans. A quick Google search will reveal significant outrage and debate about the shows content and its supposed proliferation of stereotypes to cater to a "white audience". Although I do not agree that the show is inherently racist, I believe that there is enough buzz out there about the show that the controversy must be addressed on this page. I implore you not to delete this section, but to add and refine it as you see fit. I have done my best to present the topic neutrally, yet in the interest of being encyclopedic, most of my references are from blogs.

70.171.34.28 (talk) 20:17, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but it has been removed as we cannot use blogs as references. This is especially important when adding "Controversy" sections, which tend to become magnets for any dislike a person may have about a particular series. Your efforts are certainly appreciated, however, and if you can find reliable sources (community leaders, mainstream press, and so on) that present viewpoints critical of the series, that would be go along way towards making the material fit under Wikipedia's requirements. Please feel free to ask if you have further questions about this. --Ckatzchatspy 20:25, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, but I refer you to this article in the WSJ: [[1]]. I quote the article: "... as it matures, Wikipedia, one of the world's largest crowdsourcing initiatives, is becoming less freewheeling and more like the organizations it set out to replace. Today, its rules are spelled out across hundreds of Web pages. Increasingly, newcomers who try to edit are informed that they have unwittingly broken a rule -- and find their edits deleted, according to a study by researchers at Xerox Corp." Such rigid hierarchy and posturing is contributing towards Wikipedia's downfall. Might I also remark that the blogosphere is probably a more reliable source than the mainstream press, etc, because it is unfiltered, statistical news; circumventing the press and community leaders are the very raison d'etre of Wikipedia. 70.171.34.28 (talk) 22:17, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How about just a "Reception" section? I'm sure that there are some official news outlets out there that give a review of the show, and possibly mention the racism issues. But in leiu of news outlets, I think blogs would be acceptable. Most mainstream repoters aren't die-hard fans of Family Guy, or even animation in general. So, I'm all for citing well thought-out, intelligent blogs on this page. I do agree, however, that allowing the citation of blogs would open the floodgates for vandals. Does Wikipedia explicitly forbid it? 121.208.146.223 (talk) 06:03, 18 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There is a guideline outlining what Wikipedia considers a reliable source. The "self-published" section covers blogs, which are largely considered unacceptable as sources, except for a few narrow exceptions. Leithp 11:36, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline continuity problem

[edit]

Timeline continuity prob: Quahog 1982 (Zapped), Stoolbend 1984

How can Cleveland be a young college student in Quahog when Peter makes that 'Zapped' reference to Lois in 1982, but then be a high school student in Stoolbend to laugh at that geek w/ the computer in 1984 ("Field Of Streams" 01/03/2010)??? Macshill (talk) 04:48, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's a fictional cartoon. They don't really make any effort to maintain 'continuity'. It's all done for the humor! DP76764 (Talk) 05:46, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The "humor" in this case being the show's creators' mocking disrespect of their audience, manifest in their lazy writing and editing. Analogdrift (talk) 20:16, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ratings?

[edit]

Does anyone have ratings information? I watched only the first two episodes, which were lousy. Family Guy has been lousy recently too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.72.97.177 (talk) 18:17, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Check individual episode pages. CTJF83 chat 18:26, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comedy Central

[edit]

Does anyone have ANY PROOF that Comedy Central is gonna air The Cleveland Show on October 7th at 10? The "citation" is to the CC press release page. I have searched through their press releases, all the way back to October, and I can't find ONE talking about them acquiring TCS. Unless we can find definitive proof, the reference needs to be taken down. With all due respect, BrianGriffin-FG (talk) 16:38, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Crossovers with Family Guy Section

[edit]

Seems like it's time to trim (or hack) this section; it's turning into an exhaustive list of every single appearance of the FG characters. Seems like it should also be converted to a prose format. Any takers? DP76764 (Talk) 03:52, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

100% Agree...I'd work on it now, but have to sleep. If it isn't done later on Monday, I'll work on it. CTJF83 chat 03:54, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copied and Pasted

[edit]

I believe these words from one of the opening paragraphs were copied and pasted from a Seth MacFarlane interview, but no credit was given: "Cleveland has had enough of Quahog – he realizes that he wants his own friends, his own sidekicks, his own stories. So he sets out to California to make it in a way that we'll have to keep a secret until the show starts, and then he ends up somewhere else, which we'll also keep a secret until the show starts. But he basically goes home – he goes to his hometown in Virginia and rekindles an old high school flame."

I might be wrong, but I don't think I am. I would imagine it should be changed, or credited. Kjscotte34 (talk) 22:05, 12 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Songs used in the show

[edit]

Whilst looking for the name of a song in an episode I came across, it occured to me that The Cleveland Show makes large use of popular musicians and pop music in comparison to similar shows, so maybe a list of songs with the relevant shows could be listed as well as the custom-made/modified ones? 82.32.11.95 (talk) 18:58, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Constant redirecting

[edit]

Are all The Cleveland Show episodes not notable? JDDJS keeps redirecting all the episodes to season pages without asking anyone else's opinion. Unreal7 (talk) 08:40, 16 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Cleveland Show has been Cancelled

[edit]

On Wednesday, April 17, 2013; the website A. V. Club reported that Fox had cancelled The Cleveland Show. The news was not a surprise since the ratings were very low, and the show even make a joke that they had been cancelled on a Sunday, April 14, 2013 episode.204.80.61.133 (talk) 16:11, 17 April 2013 (UTC)Bennett Turk[reply]

Too funny at the Cleveland Show poking fun at the situation. Anyways, I actually saw that report, but Fox has denied those reports, as shown here [2]. Currently, the decision as to whether or not the show will see another is up in the air. AmericanDad86 (talk) 19:50, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Until a formal announcement of the show's cancellation is made, I do not see the point in speculating about its status. Even if it is cancelled, there could still be some unaired episodes that Fox will release over the course of the next TV season. Davejohnsan (talk) 17:05, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Are you proposing the removal of the "Fox dismissed increasing rumors" line in the article? I think it's probably worth mentioning, since cancellation talk has picked up some steam. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:22, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not necessarily, but I don't see the point in mentioning that Fox hasn't determined the fate of the series yet. Seems to fall into WP:CRYSTAL. Davejohnsan (talk) 17:28, 18 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Let's refrain from nitpicking over trifles. WP:CRYSTAL has nothing to do with this. I read that entire section and it has to do with a failure to verify a future event or having a full page dedicated to some future unverified events. That Fox has not determined the future of this show has been fully sourced and verified. Please move on and stop edit warring with all the users who want different information about this event into the article.AmericanDad86 (talk) 01:48, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't done anything to the current information in the article. I've only been reverting edits that have either 1) changed the end date in the infobox, since even if the series is canceled that field is to remain at "present" until the last episode has aired; and 2) made unverifiable or unreliable claims that the series has, in fact, been canceled. Davejohnsan (talk) 01:59, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct. And thanks for those edits by the way, Dave. Your monitoring is very much appreciated. You are right that the dating edits and claims to cancellation information should NOT be in the article until there is confirmation. I was only referring to your comments with regards to Fox's statements which I edited in to keep the inaccurate information from continually being added in.AmericanDad86 (talk) 02:10, 19 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Both TV By The Numbers and TV Overmind are reporting the show as truly canceled. However, a few other websites seem to suggest that Fox hasn't announced a decision regarding the show. Might want to wait for something a little more concrete. Yoyoddd (talk) 10:57, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wait until tomorrow's upfront. They unveil the schedule, telling you whether it's cancelled or not. Macbookpro1990 (talk) 15:39, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It has been cancelled. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.114.134.236 (talk)

This right here is as close as it gets, and it says "unofficially cancelled". I have requested another full protection of this page, this is getting beyond ridiculous. Hearfourmewesique (talk) 03:36, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's a speculitive blog, see this. CTF83! 03:41, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I know, but I just wanted to illustrate to all the editors who eagerly add all the speculative blogs that even the most "definitive" one uses the term "unofficially". Hearfourmewesique (talk) 03:58, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, good point! CTF83! 10:02, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that it has been officially cancelled as of May 13 Fox Releases 2013-2014 Primetime Schedule Redrok84 (talk) 23:40, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Does it look like the FOX website to you??? Seriously, this article was protected twice, and every time the attacks resume. You may read this IGN article, which states the following: "FOX never officially announced the show had ended (...) in theory, they could start Cleveland back up again at some point." Hearfourmewesique (talk) 03:57, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Cleveland Show will never air new episodes again. Fox did not renew meaning it is cancelled you just sound like a fan that doesn't want to believe its cancelled. Koala15 (talk) 23:33, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid Koala15 is right. Numerous individuals have now presented legitimate sources stating the show won't be returning next year and there's this argument of "Well, that doesn't necessarily mean the show will never return ever again." Regardless if there's ever a revival in the future which I doubt, the show is cancelled at this time and should be stated as such. To the fan base, I can appreciate your tenacity, but it's over! AmericanDad86 (talk) 23:38, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Koala15 and AmericanDad86, you seem to fail to grasp the concept of "official". Please read the thread below this one. Hearfourmewesique (talk) 16:36, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not on schedule next Fall

[edit]

I keep trying to write that Cleveland will not be on the schedule next Fall but some guy continuously reverts my edits without even looking at my sources. Yes I know TVBytheNumbers and Collider are speculative sites, but this is a copy of the official press release from FOX and the show is not on the schedule. I'm not debating on whether the show is cancelled, I'm just saying that it will not be on the schedule next Fall. That much is true. 2001:558:6011:79:2109:6DF1:77C5:6431 (talk) 22:13, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

http://collider.com/fox-primetime-schedule-jj-abrams-almost-human/#more-254830/

Well, Animation Domination is on that schedule, and nothing specific is stated. Moreover, philosophically speaking, if your sources claim to rely on FOX's upcoming schedule, where is FOX? Why is there not a single peep from them? Pardon the pun (and plagiarizing Family Guy), but... for FOX' sake, just drop it. Hearfourmewesique (talk) 04:20, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As Hearfourmewesique has commented, there is no Fox statement yet. The only thing that is known for sure is that production has stopped and the lead time for animation makes it very unlikely that the show will proceed. Until Fox release something definitive; I agree with Hearfourmewesique. Flat Out let's discuss it 04:50, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I found a ref that's reputable enough and cites Fox' Chairman of Entertainment as their source, so I added it. Problem solved? Hearfourmewesique (talk) 17:02, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A good outcome, well done. Flat Out let's discuss it 00:33, 3 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

THIS SHOW DOESN'T DESERVE IT'S OWN PAGE!

[edit]

I mean, it isn't a good show, and it has been cancelled for years. Why not just merge it with Family Guy, and have a section of the Family Guy page talk about the show. After all, it was a Family Guy spin-off, and nobody really likes the show enough to care if it has it's own page or not.

Also, sorry about the aggressive title of this, I just had to get attention for this serious issue. Nohomerstormented (talk) 00:35, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize (it's been a while so you may not even read this), but this is a major animated show that has not even been considered for deletion before. Yes it is cancelled (The Cleveland character is on "Family Guy" again), but unless someone cares to start this now, more than likely it's staying. Also, I would not consider this a "serious issue"

However, no hurt feelings intended and Best Wishes! The brave celery (talk) 00:09, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Why can't I change to was? I mean, the show is CANCELLED, after all. Right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ILoveCrotons (talkcontribs) 19:12, 19 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Becuase it still airs on cable and is considered a major show. It is on Netflix, and it is all-around just still culturally enjoyed by it's fans and all that if you know what I mean. The brave celery (talk) 00:12, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't know I mean plenty of cancelled shows are on Netflix and still get re-aired on cable. It doesn't mean they are still being made. I'll have to look at comparable shows/articles to double check and then I might hold a vote if some other people disagree.Lord David, Duke of Glencoe (talk) 17:34, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! If you're still intersted, for a start try spotting minor factual errors and grammatical errors. Again just a start!

The brave celery (talk) 00:09, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"It is serving as the second spin-off of Family Guy..."

[edit]

What was the first spin-off?

Drsruli (talk) 21:42, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Good question – considering that the Family Guy article itself describes the Cleveland Show as that show's only spinoff, this should be corrected or deleted. Aoi (青い) (talk) 21:47, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is the only spinoff, the page has been re-worded.
