Royal Black Institution

[edit]

I have added a reference to the Royal Black Institution with the weasel word "may" in the sentence. I am fairly sure this is the origin of Black as a derogatory term for protestant, but I have no citation for it. Perhaps someone with a reference could add it. Dictionary entry

[edit]

This article seems to be a dictionary entry (definition, etymology and usage.) Would it be better moved to Wiktionary? --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 11:14, 1 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

26 November 1836 – Belfast Commercial Chronicle – On 22 November 1836 a dinner was hosted by the Conservatives of Banbridge, where Mr. Dunbar quoted Daniel O'Connell, "The great agitator has said, “In a review of the country, let us look to the Black North.” "
