I deleted the entry about this medication being used in the treatment of Tourette syndrome. It is rarely used in the treatment of TS, as the empirical evidence for its efficacy is weak (meaning, no controlled studies supporting its use). I'm not sure if this list was intended to include all possible uses, but it is labeled as all common uses, which is not correct in the case of TS treatment. Sandy 22:58, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
- This is rather ironic because I was inspired to start this article in the first place after being placed on the medication myself to treat my TS. A quick web search finds quite a number of references to the drug being found useful in the treatment of TS, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with your reasons for removal of the reference. - Pacula 00:38, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you Pacula, a possible treatment and also the initial understanding of the process whereby it might benefit is a helpful lead. let hope this page grows and eventually leads to greater understanding by many types of people and hopefully also leading to development of effective regimes for the treatment of td. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.101.100.14 (talk) 05:35, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
News report quote
[edit]I have deleted the following entry because it doesn't add any useful information to the first paragraph. If someone would like to write a "history" section and include this information that is fine.
The effort for US FDA approval was led by Dr. Joseph Jankovic. According to a 2008 news report,[1] "Americans with Huntington's who weren't Jankovic's patients ordered tetrabenazine from Canada if they could afford it. But the worsening exchange rate put the price out of reach for many. A recent check found Canadian Internet pharmacies selling generic 25-milligram pills for $1.75 or more each in U.S. currency, brand-name 25-mg pills for around $2.35 each." After the FDA approval, Dr. Jancovic said "I'm worried that the drug is just going to be too expensive" and initial pricing was $68.50 per 25 mg tablet.[2]

I am surprised by the high price of tetrabenazine in the USA. The British National Formulary (66th edition: Sept 2013 - March 2014) gives the price for non-proprietary tetrabenazine 25 mg as £100 (100 pounds sterling) for a 112-tablet pack. NRPanikker (talk) 15:29, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
