Grove became a Cub Scout in 1951 and earned the Arrow of Light. As a Boy Scout, he earned the God and Country Award religious award, then earned Eagle Scout in 1956. He was a member of the Order of the Arrow Service Corps during the 1960 National Jamboree. As an adult, Grove has been awarded the God and Service religious award, the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver and the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (DESA). Grove is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow and received the Founder's Award. He earned his Wood Badge beads and participated on staff, earning his third bead.
