Folks, my photograph, which you've used for this article, was taken near Putre in Chile. It is almost certainly Hippocamelus bisulcus, and not H. antisensis. It'd be great if there were a rights-free photo of antisensis available to use instead. Sadly I don't have one. 158.143.201.102 14:10, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- Well, we better delete it then. Thanks for spotting the error! Funny that nobody has done it in more than two years. (Of course, you could have just deleted the image yourself.) --Jmk (talk) 09:14, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, checking from the article's history, somebody did delete the image just 5 days after the notice. But two years later somebody else added it back. --Jmk (talk) 09:31, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Photo, which species?
[edit]There has been confusion about whether the photo File:Huemul.jpg is H. antisensis (= what this article is about) or H. bisulcus. It's no good to just keep adding and deleting it, so we better get some evidence this way or other. So far, we have the claim above by 158.143.201.102 who says they actually took the photo, and that it is "almost certainly" bisulcus. To oppose that, on File_talk:Huemul.jpg User:CHUCA shouts "It is Hippocamelus antisensis; NO is a Hippocamelus bisulcus!!!!!". The latter statement contains five exlamation marks (while the former contains none), so should we hold it more credible? Or does someone have better external information? (Note that copying claims and labels back and forth between en-wiki, Commons and other wikis is not external information.) --Jmk (talk) 09:15, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
- I understand that the place where the photograph was taken is in Putre in northern Chile, near the border with Peru, in full Hippocamelus antisensis distribution, and thousands of miles north of the closest Hippocamelus bisulcus. The arid habitats can be observed, the grayish color of the coat, the slimmer shape of your body, the antlers split from the crown, etc, etc. Hug. CHUCAO (talk) 02:32, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
