Name
[edit]His correct name, as with all other Cardinals of the Holy Roman Church, is officially set out in the form "Cardinal Name Surname", not in the form Name Cardinal Surname. For proof of that, visit the Vatican´s own website. It clearly shows that the practice is to use the title "Cardinal" as a prefix to both name and surname.
Link: [1]
For that reason, I have amended the page.
The formula Name Cardinal Surname is used correctly only in Latin, or for the Cardinal´s signature. For instance, Card. Angelo Sodano is reffered to in Latin as Angelum Card. Sodano. In Latin, then, the baptismal name of the Cardinal is latinized, and the surname is kept intact, with the title of Cardinal being used between the two. This has led many people wrongly to believe that the names of the cardinals should be pronounced also in vulgar tongues with the title between the name and the surname, but that is incorrect, as the above Vatican webpage shows.
A hint of scandal
[edit]The following sentence really needs recasting. I would do it, but I don’t know what it was intended to mean.
- As a member of the Society of Don Bosco, he is still considered as a priest who has undertaken work with youth who, in Pope John Paul's last words, he had sought throughout his papacy.

retirement
[edit]Is the retirement age for the secretary of state also 75? Why would the pope appoint someone who can serve for such a short period of time? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.145.83.136 (talk) 00:59, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- 75 may be the customary retirement age, but the two previous Secretaries of State, Sodano and Casaroli, stayed on a bit longer. Casaroli did submit his request for retirement at 75, but stayed on just a little longer at request of the pope. Likewise, Sodano also stayed on longer. Mistake in the "Awards and honours" section
[edit]The Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of Poland is not "the highest decoration of the country" as this article states. The highest Polish decoration is the Order of the White Eagle, though. The "Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland" is a decoration bestowed on foreigners. And the Grand Cross is the highest class of it intended to honour heads of states and some other high ranking officials of foreign countries and international organisations. --89.68.26.87 (talk) 15:58, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Sede Vacante
[edit]Is not yet sede vacante so why Bertone as the arms like we are in sede vacante? Stigni (talk) 02:56, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Synthesis is putting together facts from two or more sources to create a novel conclusion that's not actually in the original sources. Synthesis is not stating of clear and unambiguous facts from immediately-identifiable factual sources. The John Jay Report and the other USCCB review board both made reports that indicated over 80% of sexual abuse was homosexual in nature, and furthermore that less than 5% of it was classified as pedophilia. So that kind of torpedos Bertone's statements, but I have no idea why it would be identified as "SYNTH" in good faith by at least two editors. So you're welcome to review the secondary sources which report accurately on the publicly-accessible original reports. I am not sure where this section will become WP:UNDUE for this BLP, but it seems fair that Bertone's inaccurate blithering should be followed up by what's actually in the reports that he ostensibly read. 2600:8800:1880:9A3:5604:A6FF:FE38:4B26 (talk) 16:02, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
- Bertone's comment was "Many psychologists, many psychiatrists have demonstrated that there is no relationship between celibacy and paedophilia but many others have demonstrated, I was told recently, that there is a relationship between homosexuality and paedophilia." How does the material that you added relate to the claim that there is a demonstrable relationship between homosexuality and paedophilia? Contaldo80 (talk) 22:40, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
