Regarding Tantya's Photo

[edit]

Please change the photo of tope, since it presents a bad image of the freedom fighter. --117.195.163.239 (talk) 15:36, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The photograph of Tatya Tope after he was captured should continue to be there in the article for its historical significance. But a decent picture of the great freedom fighter should also be there with his profile. Kanchanamala (talk) 02:26, 15 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your "freedom fighter" murdered 200 women and children at the Bibighar Massacre. Expect it in the article soon. Only due to deliberate concealment by Indian nationalists has it been left out. Bravo Foxtrot (talk) 01:27, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proofs please. Can you confirm that the massacre at Sati Chaura Ghat was premeditated? Or the massacre at Bibighar? There are sufficient statements to prove that both of them emanated out of confusion. And there is another argument that Bibighar was a response to what happened in Allahabad. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.216.30.156 (talk) 22:16, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about "proofs." We are talking the "fog of war" here. The soldiers thought that an order had been given. Their side lost. Lost, too, was the person who gave the order. Not much difference between "premeditated" and "confusion." People were killed. I don't see the word "premeditated" in the article. "Things happen" when soldiers turn their rifles loose on their officers in rebellion. These things are not always mutually beneficial. Controversy

[edit]

The article could use a "controversial" tag, judging by this talk page and the edit&undo article history.

Also, "tried by a military court.and also he captured Delhi in septemper 1857." is confusing. I'd fix the grammar, but its not cited. 68.149.10.39 (talk) 05:06, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tantia TopeTatya Tope – Tantia Tope is English British invented name with wrong pronunciation, I want to restore to original name Tatya Tope of Topeji. BeanTennyson (talk) 17:26, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose- Per WP:COMMONNAME and WP:RS. According to google ngram, Tantia Tope was the name first recorded in 1857 and currently more common than Tatya Tope. WP:RS states that we use the name in teritary sources such as other Encyclopedias, here, Brittannica also uses Tantia. Also about your claim of Tantia being the 'British' name, its more about the Marathi spelling Tantia (तांत्या) and Hindi spelling Tatya (तात्या), instead of the British name and Indian name. King Prithviraj II (talk) 17:46, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Possibly support About 1,110 results since 2000 About 2,830 results since 2000, in general I trust GBooks nore than the ngram, particularly as some data errors 2004-2008 before Google discontinued it. Suggest other readers look carefully at the English source. I admit to not knowing why the Marathi name should be used for someone whom I thought was from a non-Marathi speaking area? In ictu oculi (talk) 19:46, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was referring to the nom's claim of Tantia being the British name and such. Tantia Ṭope was a Maratha Brahman in the service of Nana Saheb, self declared Peshwa. King Prithviraj II (talk) 02:33, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
