This statue's name

This statue's original wooden version honored Tamanend. The Academy has renamed it to honor Tecumseh, as the Navy PAO and map referencces, and picture titles make clear. R/ the JMOprof ©¿©¬ 19:53, 11 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bill the Goat at USNA:, if the statue was widely referred to as "Tecumseh" for over 100 years, and only just renamed to "Tamanend" this past year, shouldn't there be some mention of that, somewhere...? You removed all mention of Tecumseh in a series of recent edits. In one of your edit summaries, you state "sources no longer existed", yet one of the sources you removed, that mention "Tecumseh", still works fine; ref^[1]. Also, regarding sources, before removing any that "appear to no longer exist", please check to see if it has been archived first. Thanks. - wolf 12:42, 16 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The original name of the statue/figurehead was Tamanend and was nicknamed Tecumseh at some point in its history. It has been called the wrong name for years, and we are making right a wrong. Because our alumni are angry about it even though they have been calling it by the wrong name, we want to steer away from using the name Tecumseh as often as possible. Iti s an insult to Tamanend's legacy and his tribe in Delaware. On the Uniterd States Naval Academy page, my edits that are not there now, made this distinction about the change and that the name Tecumseh was incorrect.
