[edit]Question of accuracy: Is Ajjer actually just Tahaggart? More sources could help, as Ethnologue seems to have have Ajjer correlated to Tahaggart, but lists Ghat being spoken in areas controlled by the Kel Ajjer. Dalrymple
"Northern Tuareg"
[edit]@Cookiemonster1618: I know what the source says, and I'm saying that because it is the only known Northern Tuareg language, putting that in the classification instead of as an altname is redundant. Unless there are sources suggesting that another Northern Tuareg language existed at some point, doing this is redundant. Arctic Circle System (talk) 02:16, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- The classification of the Tuareg languages is divided into Southern and Northern it doesn't matter what you think, on wikipedia we cite what reliable actual sources mention not your opinions. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 02:23, 7 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Cookiemonster1618: Do the sources generally say there have been any other Northern Tuareg languages at any point? If not, then Tamahaq and Northern Tuareg are synonymous. If so, then you need to cite RS which make that claim. Arctic Circle System (talk) 08:02, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
- The source divides the languages into Northern and Southern branches you can't just reclassify languages based on your own personal opinions on how they should be classified. There are 3 Southern Tuareg languages and 1 Northern Tuareg language. This is not redundant and is the standard classification of languages by Ethnologue which Wikipedia has been using as a reliable source. So please stop trying to alter linguistic classification of languages. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 13:54, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Cookiemonster1618: It's not a reclassification, it's a question of how that classification should be phrased. And Ethnologue is just one source anyway. I can easily point to another RS that doesn't do that, https://glottolog.org/resource/languoid/id/taha1241. Now can you please tell me if RS generally say there have been any other Northern Tuareg languages at any point, or really just any evidence that Northern Tuareg and Tamahaq aren't synonymous and that Ethnologue's listing of Tamahaq as the only part of a Northern Tuareg subgroup isn't just the result of how the website is formatted? Arctic Circle System (talk) 01:44, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- Glottolog is not a really mainstream classification that is used on Wikipedia that much, many languages are divided into Northern and Southern branches its not a format issue. The Ethio-Semitic languages for example are divided into North and South branches and in the case of South, further subdivided into Southern. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 02:30, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Cookiemonster1618: Did you even look at the example I sent you or are you just going to repeat your claim? I'm not saying that Tuareg isn't divided into northern and southern branches. I'm saying that Tamahaq itself is the northern branch, that it's synonymous with that. Unless you want to claim that Gheg Albanian isn't synonymous with Gheg Albanian and Garhwali isn't synonymous with Garhwali in Ethnologue's database, that is. Arctic Circle System (talk) 05:38, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
- No because it is not synonymous with Northern Tuareg, the synonymous name for the language would be Tamasheq or Tahaggart. Northern is the specific branch that the variety would come under and the synonymous name for the language would be Tahaggart. Cookiemonster1618 (talk) 17:09, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
