Shabby Middle Class

[edit]

"The novel centres around the (increasingly desperate and cruel) attempts of Patrick Standish, a 30 year old schoolmaster at the local grammar school, to seduce Jenny, against a backdrop of his skirmishes with his school authorities and with the shabby, suburban middle class milieu in which the novel is set."

"...[S]habby, suburban, middle class..." is an oxymoron, without more. If no one minds, I'll edit it for internal consistency.71.155.150.232 (talk) 03:30, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Finest work?

[edit]

"and is possibly his finest and most accomplished work" is the assertion of the contributor's point of view, and has no place in this article. It is also nonsense: this book is very far from being Amis's finest work - Lucky Jim, Ending Up, even One Fat Englishman are all superior. Brymor (talk) 20:06, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't there be at least a mention of "Clarissa Harlowe" somewhere in this article?Delahays (talk) 14:42, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
