Several Mistakes Appeared in Previous Editing
[edit]1. Taiwan Area of the Republic of China ≠ Taiwan. This document also concerns travelling to Kinmen and Matsu, which are part of the Taiwan Area but not Taiwan.
2. Taiwan Travel Permit and Taiwan Entry Permit are almost separate. All citizens of the PRC need a Taiwan Entry Permit to enter the Taiwan Area, not just those who have a Taiwan Travel Permit. Taiwan Travel Permit has nothing to do with entering the Taiwan area.
3. Hong Kong and Macao have separate border control systems from mainland China. So, citizens of the PRC do not need a Taiwan Travel Permit when leaving for the Taiwan area not only from overseas but also from Hong Kong and Macao.
4. Despite its name, Taiwan Travel Permit is not related to returning from the Taiwan Area to mainland China. Entering mainland China is a right of PRC passport holders, not a privilege. GoldWitness (talk) 02:24, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Agree on the point that the term "Taiwan Area" (instead of "Taiwan") should be used throughout the article. At the same time, the term should be simply referred to as "Taiwan Area" as the internal link leads to. Cfls (talk) 15:43, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- "Taiwan Travel Permit and Taiwan Entry Permit are almost separate ... Taiwan Travel Permit has nothing to do with entering the Taiwan area": No. The fact is that the Taiwan Travel Permit is the document that is checked by the Taiwanese border control authorities for Chinese citizens with mainland residency who do not live overseas. It is even a requirement by the Taiwanese authorities for these people to hold the Taiwan Travel Permit with an endorsement of "G" for visiting the Taiwan Area on tourism purposes; otherwise, their applications for visiting will not be considered. - Obviously, the information you mentioned has nothing to do with what we are discussing. We are discussing the situation of Chinese citizens with mainland residency and living in the mainland traveling to Taiwan. The information you cited is from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco. This office is not responsible for approving applications from Chinese citizens with mainland residency and living in the mainland to travel to Taiwan. The office is responsible for applications from "mainland Chinese personnel living overseas" (旅居海外大陸人士) rather than mainland Chinese personnel currently living in mainland China. Cfls (talk) 13:40, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right. However, the sources you provided are still outdated. Currently, the ROC authority only checks Taiwan Entry Permit and PRC passports for mainland Chinese citizens, as shown in multiple sources of this article. GoldWitness (talk) 16:04, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

- Next time you or your friend enter the Taiwan Area, if the ROC official asks you or your friend to present the Taiwan Travel Permit, I would appreciate it if you wrote a report on Wikinews and linked the article to the report you wrote. In this way, your argument will be correct and written into this article. This is the same if you or your friend are asked to upload your Taiwan Travel Permit with an endorsement when you or your friend are applying for a Taiwan Entry Permit.
